Arsenal information: £36m switch ‘on Mikel Arteta’s thoughts’ as ace drops enormous trace on his future

One Arsenal star faces an uncertain future at the Emirates after a summer sale was suggested, while another has ahinted his time at the club may be coming to an end

Arsenal’s celebration as Premier League champions is in full swing as the club prepares to bolster its ranks this summer by making big moves in the transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s team are savouring a well-earned rest after finally concluding the club’s 22-year quest for a Premier League crown. And while the Gunners fell short in their heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain, there remains considerable reason for hope.

Nevertheless, the Gunners are at a pivotal moment following one club legend turned Sky Sports pundit’s proposal to offload one of their most prized assets and plans to perhaps bring in flesh blood. Here’s all the latest news from the Emirates Stadium.

Odegaard tipped for exit

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has suggested club captain Martin Odegaard for a surprising summer departure.

Just weeks after celebrating a Premier League triumph and leading his team in the Champions League final defeat to PSG, Odegaard is being backed for a transfer elsewhere.

The Norwegian has served as the cornerstone of Arteta’s side since his arrival in north London from Real Madrid in a £36m deal back in 2021, but did not feature heavily in the title win.

And Merson wouldn’t be the first to raise doubts about whether he embodies Arsenal’s long-term vision, after an underwhelming season plagued by injury.

“It’s madness for me to be saying this but they probably will be thinking about that [selling Odegaard],” he said on The Sports Agents. “But for me, I still think there’ll be teams queuing round the block for him…

“When you play in the position that Odegaard plays in, you’re screaming out for pace up front. You have to have pace.”

Odegaard, 27, endured multiple spells on the sidelines through injury this season and missed 30 matches in total. Even when supposedly available, however, his place in the starting XI wasn’t guaranteed as Eberechi Eze provided an alternative option.

The skipper may also be concerned that Myles Lewis-Skelly’s breakthrough as a first-team midfield option has simply increased the competition for places.

The creative midfielder is set to enter the final 12 months of his deal and ranks among the club’s highest earners on £240,000 per week.

Trossard cryptic over Arsenal future

Speaking of Emirates departures, Leandro Trossard is another seasoned figure at the club attracting exit speculation. And the Belgian has essentially acknowledged his Arsenal future remains uncertain.

Speaking at a press conference before World Cup 2026, Trossard insisted he didn’t think his standing in the national squad had altered following his Premier League triumph.

However, the winger proved far more evasive when discussing his prospects in north London. He said: “I am still an Arsenal player, and we’ll see what happens this summer.”

The 31-year-old’s words appeared telling of a player aware that changes could be afoot. He’s poised to enter the final 12 months of his Gunners contract and an extension seems unlikely, given Trossard reaches 32 in December.

The former Brighton star is attracting interest from Turkish outfit Besiktas, who have previously expressed admiration for his abilities.

Nevertheless, any clarity surrounding Trossard’s destiny will probably need to await the conclusion of his World Cup duties.
