Heartbreak as brothers aged 8 and 5 killed in horror crash as college pays tribute
Brothers Tobias, eight, and Finley Rice, five, have been named as the victims of a fatal collision on the A30 in Cornwall – their headteacher called them ‘cherished members of our school family’
Two brothers who tragically died a horrific crash during half-term have been named. Tobias and Finley Rice sadly passed away following the incident at Connor Downs on the A30 in Cornwall on May 29.
Emergency services were summoned to the scene on the westbound carriageway of the major road just before 11am. Eight-year-old Tobias was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, while five-year-old Finley succumbed to his injuries in hospital three days later on June 2, reports Cornwall Live.
The boys were both pupils at the Priory CE Primary School in Christchurch, Dorset, which has been left reeling and in shock by their tragic loss, according to the BBC.
The school’s headteacher, Simon Croutear, paid tribute to the young boys, describing them as “cherished members of our school family” who would be “immensely missed”.
“Our whole school community has been shocked and grieved by the tragic loss of Tobias and Finley,” he said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family who we are in touch with and are supporting in every way we can.”
The BBC reported that Mr Croutear released the brothers’ names with the consent of their family.
A woman in her 70s was treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth after sustaining serious injuries.
Another woman, in her 40s, was also treated for injuries at Derriford Hospital and has since been discharged.
The two women and two children were travelling in the same vehicle. Police stated that relatives are being supported by specially trained officers.
A local man in his 60s was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He received treatment for minor injuries.
He has since been released under investigation while the inquiry continues.
