The victim of a horror stabbing attack, Stephen Ogilvie, has lost his left eye as a result of the assault as Sudanese suspect Hadi Alodid made his first appearance at court
The victim of the Belfast stabbing lost his left eye in the attack, Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard today (June 10).
The suspect in the horror attack has been named as Sudanese national Hadi Alodid, 30, after he made his first appearance in court. He has been charged with attempted stabbing murder of Stephen Ogilvie in Belfast, and making threats to kill an NHS radiographer on the same day.
He has also been charged with possession of a knife. Alodid has been remanded in custody for four weeks.
Witnesses described seeing the suspected knifeman allegedly licking blood from his lips after the frenzied assault. Stephen, believed to be aged 44, suffered horrific injuries to his eyes, face and back in the attack, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed.
Police forces across the UK are monitoring intelligence on protests and have plans in place to allow them to mobilise officers if needed should further disorder break out in the wake of the Belfast stabbing and the murder of Henry Nowak.
A spokesperson for the National Police Chiefs Council said: “Police are closely monitoring intelligence and information on protest activity to ensure a swift and decisive response to any reports of public disorder.
“We have well-established plans in place to enable us to mobilise officers at a regional and national level if required.”
