A police cordon has been set up in a Leicestershire village following reports of a shooting last night.
Locals reportedly heard three gunshots at 10.29pm on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred on Brascote Lane in Newbold Verdon. The event has sparked considerable worry among local residents, with one describing the situation as “very out of the norm” for the area.
According to one man, two shots were allegedly fired into a car and another through the front door of a house. The man, who has family in the area but wished to remain anonymous, said the incident is causing “a lot of alarm” within the community. He added that there are “no injuries as far as I’m aware”.
Two local men – who also chose to remain unnamed – told Leicestershire Live that this is the “first time” something like this has happened in Newbold Verdon.
They added that the incident has left them feeling ” a bit nervous”. One man said: “It does come as a shock – I’ve lived here for several years. This is the first time something like this has happened in our village.”
The second man added: “These sorts of things don’t happen in places like this, you’d expect this to happen in places like Leicester. It makes me feel a bit nervous really.”
Patricia Brown and David Browning have lived in the village for 60 years. Patricia told the publication: “We have lived here for 60 years and we’ve had no trouble. It’s a shame because it doesn’t happen here. It makes a change.”
David added that the incident had not left him overly worried. He said: “No I don’t feel worried really because it’s a fair distance from where we live. I’m quite surprised, but then again, if people move in you don’t know what their character is, do you?”
