Teen who ‘battered girlfriend with golf membership and burned her lifeless nan’s memorial’ avoids jail

A teen who “battered” his girlfriend with a golf club, threw bleach at her and burned a memorial to her late grandmother has avoided jail.
Callum Peacock, 19, reportedly hurled paint and dumbbells at his partner during a terrifying attack. The 19-year-old also allegedly set fire to a memorial T-shirt bearing a picture of her deceased nan and telling her she would “rot in hell”.
The victim was left cowering in a ball on a bathroom floor as Peacock smashed through the door and threatened to burn down their flat. Police were called to the property in St Helens, on 25 January – where they found the victim sobbing behind a damaged bathroom door.
Despite the violent attack, the teen escaped an immediate prison sentence after a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on 10 June. An expert in gender-based violence prevention has been left shocked by the case, claiming “incel culture” is to blame.
Gemma Aitchison an expert in violence against woman said stated: “Our boys are being groomed by incel culture and pornography and our laws still haven’t caught up with the internet age.”
“Callum Peacock is 19 years old. Women’s Aid data shows those most at risk of domestic abuse are girls between the ages of 16-22. All violence against women and girls like this could be prevented if we stop the tokenism.”
She added: “Judges, police, CPS and probation ignore the decades worth of data that violence against women and girls are serial and escalating offences. They are not one off mistakes.
“We need to stop prioritising men’s feelings over women’s safety by addressing the facts, not because it’s demonising men but because it’s failing our sons and daughters alike refusing to get over the ‘not all men’ barrier and actually do something.”
During the hearing Peacock admitted to throwing items at the victim – with the court also told he hit her with a broom handle and a golf club. This was before the teen put her in a chokehold from behind, causing her to try and hide in the bathroom.
This was followed by him smashing the door with the club before he launched dumbbells and a bottle of bleach at her. Armed with an aerosol and lighter, Peacock used it to set fire to the bathroom door. The terrifying three-hour ordeal also saw Peacock burn a memorial T-shirt which featured a picture of the victim’s late grandmother – who he reportedly said would “rot in hell”.
Two days prior to the attack the court was told he had also struck her with a hammer after an argument. After he was arrested, Peacock reportedly continued to make threats. Despite the horrific nature of the attack Peacock avoided an immediate jail sentence.
He admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, arson and criminal damage. The teen was handed an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
Peacock was ordered to complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity and slapped with a five-year restraining order. Gemma said: “He was raised in a society that claims gender stereotypes are progressive and pornography as empowering.
“One that dismisses paedophiles and domestic abusers in family courts. One that even when rape is filmed it’s not followed by a custodial sentence. One that lets those convicted out so they can kill again.”
She added: “One that only acts when it’s too late (David Minto, Jordan McSweeney and Wayne Couzens all had previous offences against women and girls).
“Our kids don’t stand a chance until we act. The more we listen to girls, the less dead women we will have. Let the voices of the suffragettes be heard: deeds not words.”
