Emma Raducanu was spotted getting cosy with a new mystery man just hours after her heartbreaking defeat in the final at Queen’s. The British No.1 endured a straight-sets 6-0, 7-6 (6) loss to Donna Vekic at the Andy Murray Arena following her remarkable run to the final in Eastbourne.
But the anguish from her final defeat and losing nearly half of her prize money clearly didn’t prevent Raducanu from enjoying some relaxation time with a potential romantic interest.
The Briton, 23, was seen at Battersea Park in southwest London with 32-year-old John Friend, who seemed to be considerably more than what his surname implied. Friend, understood to be a PR specialist, was photographed strolling with his dog alongside Raducanu before the duo sat down on a park bench.

Images published by The Sun seemed to capture the pair looking smitten with each other as they gazed into one another’s eyes, while also laughing and embracing in an affectionate manner.
Raducanu has generally maintained her romantic life away from public scrutiny since parting ways with billionaire heir Carlo Agostinelli in 2024. But a witness quoted by The Sun suggested the tennis ace wasn’t trying to conceal her flirtatious conduct, with Raducanu beaming while chatting to Friend despite suffering the final loss just hours beforehand.
“Emma and her man looked like they didn’t have a care in the world as they meandered through the crowds,” the anonymous observer said. “They looked besotted with one another.
“You wouldn’t have thought that, hours earlier, she’d suffered a defeat on the court. Any disappointment looked like it had evaporated as they cuddled. They certainly didn’t seem to be self-conscious of being together and affectionate, and there were plenty of other people around.”
Raducanu burst onto the scene in 2021 when she claimed the US Open as a qualifier at the age of 19. Since then, she revealed her parents have actively discouraged her from pursuing romantic relationships due to the potential impact on her tennis career.
Her performances plummeted after the burden of expectation became overwhelming, alongside debilitating wrist and ankle injuries that required surgery in 2024. But Raducanu showcased the talent that once saw her hailed as one of the brightest emerging talents in women’s tennis at Queen’s, defeating the likes of Anna Blinkova and 17th seed Sorana Cirstea en route to the final.
She hadn’t surrendered a single set in her four matches before facing Vekic, but came up short at the decisive moment. Speaking after the match, Raducanu said: “Right now it obviously really stings, so I’m just going to try and let myself feel it today – but try and get over it pretty quick.”
Her performance at the tournament, along with her appearance in the final of the ATP 250 event in Cluj, has seen her rise back into the top 30 in the WTA rankings. This could be sufficient to secure her a seed at Wimbledon next month, with Raducanu expressing satisfaction with her recent performances.
“I haven’t really played much this season, but to think I have made two finals so far, which I haven’t done in years, it has to be, in a way, celebrated,” said Raducanu. “It’s a good achievement for me and I’m proud of it.”
