Harry Kane misses penalty however will get away with it for England vs Croatia in World Cup
Harry Kane was handed a lifeline after missing badly from the penalty spot during England’s World Cup opener with Croatia on Wednesday evening
Harry Kane was handed a World Cup lifeline on Wednesday evening after he missed from the spot during England’s World Cup opener.
The Three Lions had been awarded a spot kick during the opening ten minutes of the clash in Arlington, Texas, after Noni Madueke nicked the ball away from Luka Modric. The midfield swung his boot to try and clear the ball, but clattered into the Arsenal winger.
Kane, who missed a penalty during his last World Cup outing, stepped up but saw his shot batted away by Dominik Livaković. However, he was handed a second chance at glory when VAR officials noticed an encroachment from Josko Gvardiol.

Replays showed Gvardiol had made first contact with the ball after Livakovic’s save. And replays also appeared to show was slightly off his line when the penalty was taken.
This time there was no mistake from Kane, who lashed the ball into the net to start the Three Lions’ charge for a second World Cup win.
“If Kane wants to do that daft stutter and miss, you can’t be penalising Croatia for encroaching,” one fan shared.
“Kane lucky with that penalty see players encroach all the time hardly ever gets given…but 1-0 need to build on it now,” a second said. While a third posted: “Harry Kane was lucky there was a retake. He should never take penalty like that ever again!”
And another added: “Kane so lucky to get a 2nd chance – wish players would stop faffing about with penalties!”
Kane has been prolific from the spot this season with the Bayern Munich striker scored 10 penalties in the Bundesliga.
