Celebrity UFO believers and their freaky encounters – in their very own phrases

Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg is upset that he’s never had a UFO encounter, despite making a raft of movies about extraterrestrials, including his new film, Disclosure Day.

But the director, who was also behind ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, reckons life from other planets has already visited Earth. The flick’s star, Emily Blunt, also believes in aliens. And some fellow movie actors have had unexplained sightings, as James Moore reveals…

Woody Harrelson: In 1974, as a teenager in Ohio, US, The Hunger Games star had a freaky experience at night. He says: “There were these lights that were just kind of blinking, and then it would just shoot all the way across the sky.”

He watched for a while until, “they just zoomed off into another world.”

Kurt Russell: While flying his private plane near Phoenix, Arizona, in 1997, the Guardians of the Galaxy star spotted a weird V-formation of six lights hovering over the airport.

When he reported it to the control tower they could see nothing on radar. But similar reports were made by others at the time.

Dan Ackroyd: Famous for starring in Ghostbusters, the actor reckons he’s had four separate sightings of UFOs.

He recalled: “The most spectacular one that I saw was about 50 feet away from me and on the 23rd floor of a hotel in Montreal. There were no lights at all, it was just a big grey object…”

Mira Sorvino: The Mighty Aphrodite star spotted an unidentified object over her house in Malibu, California.

She says: “I have seen a UFO, for real. There is nothing else to explain it…I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a ball zoom over the ocean and hover for two minutes before disappearing.”

Michael Sheen: Aged 12, the Welsh star of films like Underworld saw what he thought were UFOs near his home in Port Talbot. He described them as a “phalanx of lights coming from behind the mountain and floating out over the sea… and then they stopped. And then they all disappeared.”

Russell Crowe: In 2013, the Gladiator star tweeted a time-lapse of photos show a strange object with red lights flying across the sky He says it couldn’t have been a reflection as: “The camera is on a balcony not behind glass.”

Olivia Newton-John : The Grease star grew up in Cambridge in the UK where she claimed to have seen a UFO. She said: “I have seen one when I was very young. It was unidentified and it was flying.” She added that it was travelling at “amazing speed.”
