A highly anticipated new tubing mascara that promises to deliver incredible volume, length and lift without heaviness has just hit the shelves, and as someone who has tried countless formulas looking for ‘the one’, I put it to the test.

Merit is the latest beauty brand to unveil a new tubing mascara; meet the Merit Clean Volume Mascara. With less smudging and flaking than traditional mascaras, this could be your new summer essential.

Merit Clean Volume Mascara

The Clean Volume mascara is a new tubing mascara that ditches the idea of bigger, heavier lashes in favour of something far more precise: controlled lift, separation and buildable impact that still looks like your own lashes.

Available in both Black and Brown, you can choose just how dramatic you want your eye look to be. Opt for black when you want to make an impact and brown when you’re keeping things a bit more natural.

This mascara coated every single one of my lashes and left them looking defined, so much longer and truly volumised – something I usually can’t rely on just one mascara to do

When you think of volumising mascara, you may think of a huge brush, clumpy lashes and eyes covered in smudgy, black product that ruins your makeup look.

Gratefully, Merit is here to help you leave these formulas in the past, developing a volumising mascara that delivers impact through precision – not excess.

What did senior commerce writer Lydia think of the Merit Clean Volume mascara?

I’m already a big fan of Merit Beauty and its more natural, minimalist formulas, so I went into trying this mascara with high expectations. I was, however, a little bit nervous that the more lightweight formula wouldn’t give my lashes the oomph they needed.

I really needn’t have worried at all. This mascara gave me all the lift, definition and volume that I could ask for – all without any spidery-looking, clumpy, heavy lashes.

Firstly, let’s talk about the brush. This brush is a bit smaller than many other mascara brushes on the market, boasting a far more precise wand that allows you to coat every single lash without making a total mess.

Whether I’m reaching for my smaller inner-eye lashes or tackling the longer outer corners, the petite wand makes it easy to tackle every lash and build up the volume

Secondly, the formula. I tried the brown mascara and was certainly not disappointed by the gorgeous finish.

This mascara coated every single one of my lashes and left them looking defined, so much longer and truly volumised – something I usually can’t rely on just one mascara to do.

And while I worried that the more lightweight formula would leave my lashes falling flat, the Merit Clean Volume Mascara left nothing to be desired, instead leaving me with some of the longest, most luscious lashes I’ve had in a while.

The tubing formula didn’t flake on me or transfer throughout the day, which was another added godsend, and removal was a total doddle

The tubing formula didn’t flake or transfer throughout the day, which was another added bonus, especially on hot summer days, and removal was a total doddle.

I forgot the mascara was tubing when it came to removal but my standard, gentle cream cleanser made light work of it, satisfyingly removing the cones of mascara with little rubbing.

What’s not to love? I’m a total fan of this new Merit mascara and now need to get my hands on the black version for my more dramatic looks.

A real USP is the first-of-its-kind, petite precision wand that targets each lash individually, building structure and fullness through separation and lifting rather than clump or weight.

But its not just the brush that makes this mascara so special. Merit’s iconic Lash Wrap Technology in the formula combines shea butter, plant waxes and tubing film formers to wrap lashes in lightweight, flexible definition.

This ensures your lashes hold their volume, lift and curl all day while removing easily with warm water thanks to its tubing technology.

Tubing mascaras are perfectly suited to those that find standard mascaras smudge or flake, designed to wrap the lashes while resisting your skin’s oils, sweat, water and humidity and therefore remaining smudge-proof and flake-free all day.

Then when it’s time to remove your makeup, the mascara slides away effortlessly with warm water (no tugging or rubbing required), allowing you to continue on your lash journey damage-free.

Clinical study results for the new Merit Mascara have been incredibly impressive, too, with 100 per cent of users’ lashes showing increased volume, length and lift.

100 per cent of users agreed their lashes looked sleek and defined instead of heavy, while 96 per cent agreed the mascara volumised the lashes without clumps
