Man Utd information: Red Devils precedence switch twist as star ‘agrees’ private phrases
Manchester United are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as manager Michael Carrick looks to rebuild his midfield but the market is looking trickier than first thought
Manchester United are facing a crucial transfer window as boss Michael Carrick looks to capitalise on his promising start at Old Trafford. The club will be eager to better last season’s third-place showing and also leave their mark following their Champions League return.
Brazilian midfielder Ederson is poised to join United from Atalanta after agreeing an early switch for the 26-year-old. Nevertheless, further additions are expected as the club seek to replace departing Casemiro and strengthen their midfield ranks.
United are understood to be battling Tottenham Hotspur for West Ham ace Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal star is among numerous players being touted for a switch to Old Trafford, but their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson appears to be over. Here, the Daily Star Sport examines some of the major stories around United.
Elliot Anderson blow
Manchester United appear to have received the final nail in the coffin of their pursuit of England midfielder Anderson after Manchester City struck a deal worth up to £130million.
City have been in talks with Nottingham Forest for weeks about the England international. But a deal has now been struck between the two clubs, which will see Anderson become the most expensive Englishman in top flight history.
It’s understood Anderson has agreed personal terms with City on a five-year-deal, worth around £200,000-a-week. He is expected to undergo his medical in New York.
Mateus Fernandes transfer twist
United may encounter a complication in their bid to land West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international is believed to be priced at £80 million by the Hammers.
The Sun has reported that Tottenham are “prepared to offer more” than United in terms of wages. Despite finishing 17th last season, Roberto De Zerbi’s team are reportedly ready to shell out larger salaries for their star signings.
In contrast to Spurs, United can provide Fernandes with the opportunity to compete in the Champions League next season. However, it remains uncertain whether Tottenham’s readiness to offer higher wages will influence United’s transfer strategy.
Southampton stand to gain 15 per cent of any potential transfer fee for Fernandes, having sold him for £38m last year. The midfielder was unable to prevent West Ham from being relegated, contributing three goals and four assists across 36 league matches.
Andre Onana ‘agrees’ terms
United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly edging closer to finalising a move away from the club. The 30-year-old joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 but spent the previous season on loan at Trabzonspor.
Turkish outlet A Spor reports that Onana has “accepted all of Trabzonspor’s financial demands”. It is suggested that the Cameroon international is set to return to the club on another loan deal.
Onana lost his position as United’s first-choice goalkeeper last term, with new signing Senne Lammens taking over. The ex-Ajax player subsequently made 33 appearances for Trabzonspor, where he lifted the Turkish Cup.
