Frankie Dettori well being replace after horror automobile crash as picture taken from hospital mattress
Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori has given an update on his health to his fans and followers on social media platform X after being involved in a horror car crash yesterday
The first image of legendary jockey Frankie Dettori has been published as he remains in hospital following a horror car crash.
Dettori has thanked the emergency services after he sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb when involved in a car accident in Newmarket on Wednesday evening (July 1).
His injuries were being assessed in hospital on Thursday (July 2)through further scans and observation, with the Italian grateful for the well wishes he has since received.
In a post on X, Dettori said: “Thank you, everyone, for your kind messages and support. A huge thank you as well to the fantastic emergency staff who looked after me.
“I’m very sore and have a few broken ribs, so I’ll be taking some time to rest and recover. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.”
Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car the 55-year-old was driving, causing it to spin and flip, according to a statement from his management company H Talent Management.
The statement said: “H Talent Management can confirm that Frankie Dettori was involved in a road traffic accident in Newmarket on the evening of Wednesday, 1st July.
“Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Frankie was driving, causing it to spin and flip.
“Frankie was taken to hospital, where he was found to have sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb. His injuries are still being assessed, and he remains in hospital for further scans and observation.
“Frankie would like to thank the emergency services who attended the scene, together with the doctors, nurses and wider medical team caring for him.
“His focus is now on resting and recovering. H Talent Management respectfully asks that Frankie’s privacy is respected at this time.
“No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update.”
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called just after 6.55pm (on Wednesday) to a road traffic collision on the A1304 near Six Mile Bottom.
“Two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene.
“Two patients were transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital (in Cambridge) for further assessment and treatment.”
Cambridgeshire Police said officers were called to reports of a collision between two cars on the A1304 London Road near Six Mile Bottom at around 7pm.
The force said no arrests were made, adding: “Both drivers were taken to hospital as a precaution and an investigation is on-going for traffic-related offences.”
Dettori has not ridden in Britain since October 2023 when he won the Champion Stakes on King Of Steel at Ascot.
Now an ambassador for Amo Racing, he was due to return to the saddle in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during the St Leger Festival in September.
In June 2000, Dettori survived a light aircraft crash in Newmarket that killed pilot Patrick Mackey, being dragged out of the wreckage by fellow jockey Ray Cochrane, who went on to be his agent.
