Liverpool information: Reds midfield switch nears completion as announcement issued

Liverpool are set to confirm the transfer of one midfielder and a statement has been issued on another arrival at Anfield as Andoni Iraola’s first transfer window is up and running

Andoni Iraola has hit the ground running since being named Liverpool manager last month. The Spaniard’s tenure at Anfield reaches the one-month milestone this week and he’s already secured the club’s first summer signing in Victor Munoz.

Several key players have departed during his brief reign, including Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, although all three exits were agreed before Iraola took over from Arne Slot.

Transfer activity for all clubs is expected to ramp up in the coming days and weeks, with Liverpool poised to confirm the departure of one midfielder while an announcement regarding a player keen to impress Iraola has been made. The Daily Star Sport looks at the latest transfer rumours surrounding the Anfield outfit.

Liverpool midfielder Luca Stephenson is on the brink of leaving the club, with a switch to Bolton Wanderers nearly finalised. The 22-year-old is in the final year of his Anfield contract and has spent the past two seasons on loan at Dundee United.

Stephenson – who arrived at Liverpool’s academy in 2018 from Sunderland – has yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds despite being part of the first-team squad for their last two pre-seasons.

Stephenson’s move to Bolton is set to cost the Championship club £700,000. Despite his second season in Scotland being curtailed by injury, the midfielder scooped both the fans’ and club’s Young Player of the Season awards.

Jacquet announcement

Jeremy Jacquet’s Liverpool career officially started on Wednesday following his £60million transfer. An agreement to sign the defender was reached in January before the Frenchman returned to Rennes on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old sustained a shoulder injury upon his return to France but has since been given the green light to commence pre-season training this month. Upon his arrival, Jacquet expressed his ambition to contribute to Liverpool’s trophy haul.

He said: “I saw all the cups and trophies, just how many there are, and I thought ‘wow, I really want to be part of the history of this club’. I was just thinking that I want to bring back many more of them.”

He added: “It’s a legendary club and the football philosophy appealed to me directly, and with my family I believe we made the right choice and we feel really happy here. They are really, really proud of me.

“I think they’ve got a few stars in their eyes, a bit like I have, and that they are all excited and can’t wait to have it all started and that I begin to get some training sessions and a run of games under my belt.”
