Jordan Henderson opens up on surgical procedure after World Cup freak harm vs Mexico

Jordan Henderson has given an update on his injury after his dad shared the terrifying and gory details of his horror arm injury suffered celebrating England’s win over Mexico

Jordan Henderson has spoken out about the horror arm injury he sustained while celebrating England’s win over Mexico.

The Brentford midfielder, 36, was booked and stretchered off needing gas and air after England confirmed their quarter-final spot against Mexico despite not even getting any of the pitch. A Jude Bellingham brace and Harry Kane’s penalty gave the Three Lions a lead they went on to defend fiercely with 10-men to win 3-2 in the hostility and high altitude in the Estadio Azteca.

After full-time, England players climbed over the advertising hoardings to sing Wonderwall and celebrate with the travelling support behind the goal.

However, disaster struck when Henderson attempted to climb back onto the pitch, losing his balance as he vaulted back over. He fell to the turf and was treated by medical staff before the severity of his arm injury was revealed.

Henderson was taken to hospital in Kansas City, where he posted an update from his hospital bed. Posing next to his doctors with one thumb up and his left arm in a cast, Henderson added the caption: “Surgery done! Now Let’s get ready for the big one Saturday.

“Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas city orthopaedic institute. Especially the 3 surgeons who carried out the operation. Dr. Kenneth P. Unruh, Dr. Mark J Winston, Dr. Kirk McCullough.”

His England team-mates showed their support in the comments section, with the likes of Bellingham, Kane, Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers among those to comment heart emojis.

Henderson had earlier broken his silence, but only made a passing comment about the injury he suffered. Alongside snaps from the game, he wrote: “A night to remember that’s for sure! What an incredible performance against all the different challenges.

“So proud to be a part of this special team. Thanks for all the support, another big one Saturday.”

The one-time Premier League winner’s dad Brian was in the stands but unaware at the time of the damage that his son suffered.

He told the Daily Mail about the injury: “It’s his left forearm – he’s just completely smashed it. He’s going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say.”

He added: “At first, I just thought he’d fallen. I thought he’d maybe scraped his wrist. I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things.

“Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened.

“I was up all night waiting to hear the news. It’s just a waiting game now. He won’t be leaving his team-mates. He’ll be there until it’s finished.”
