Man Utd information: £48m shock switch agreed as Real Madrid ‘make large U-turn’
Manchester United fans have been hoping for a world class defensive midfielder to replace Casemiro.
Michael Carrick’s team suffered a setback after primary target Mateus Fernandes chose to join Tottenham in an £85million transfer. However, the Red Devils appear to have secured Chelsea fringe player Andrey Santos after reaching a £50million agreement with their Premier League rivals. Additions in the engine room are absolutely crucial for United as they gear up for their Champions League return this campaign.
The exit of Casemiro and long-term absence of Manuel Ugarte had left them woefully lacking in central areas. While this has now been partially resolved, there could be additional positive developments ahead for United following an apparent shift in Real Madrid’s stance regarding Aurelien Tchouameni’s future. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Santos deal struck
United will fork out an initial £48m for Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, with a further £2m in what are termed “realistic” add-ons. Chelsea have also secured a 10% sell-on clause.
Santos has been given the green light for a medical, with fellow Brazilian Ederson also set for one before finalising his £35m switch from Italian outfit Atalanta following Brazil’s World Cup exit.
The 22-year-old has shown promise at Stamford Bridge, but was understandably unable to force his way into the starting XI ahead of captain Enzo Fernandez and key man Moises Caicedo.
He has made 28 Premier League appearances to date, including one during a loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
Aurelien Tchouameni transfer U-turn

Aurelien Tchouameni has been mentioned as a primary target for United throughout much of the summer, reports the Mirror.
Nothing definitive regarding a potential offer has been suggested but United supporters will be encouraged following the most recent development in their pursuit of the Frenchman.
In a piece for FlashScore, Athletic editor Dean Jones has suggested Real Madrid’s previous determination to retain the 26-year-old at the Bernabeu may be wavering.

He said the Spanish heavyweights are ‘opening up’ to the idea of letting go of the midfielder – who is reportedly priced at £85million – in what could be the about-face United need to seal a deal.
Madrid have been active this summer with the return of manager Jose Mourinho, having signed ex-Liverpool and Manchester City stars Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva on free transfers, plus Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.
Jones further suggests that if Madrid were to inform the Frenchman that his services are no longer needed, he would be open to a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ venture into the transfer market could result in them securing the signature of Borussia Dortmund full-back Ryerson.
German publication BILD reports the Premier League side have had ‘renewed contact’ with the 28-year-old’s representatives.
Ryerson is currently shining for Norway in the World Cup and has turned heads with his performances, with the Scandinavian nation set to face England in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Saturday.
The newspaper revealed Ryerson’s impressive form in North America hasn’t slipped under the radar and United have had the defender on their radar for some time.
He’s been a pivotal figure for Dortmund since signing in 2023 but with United making a return to Champions League action next season, Carrick is eager to enhance both the depth and calibre of his squad.
