Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign a Premier League star in a surprise swoop

Michael Carrick is in the market to bolster his midfield and the Red Devils are said to be close to signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. It’s reported by The Athletic that all parties are in contact to finalise a deal for the 29-year-old.

United are in search of at least two new midfield signings following the exit of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte suffering a long-term injury. A £50million move for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos is progressing as well as the swoop for the Belgium midfielder.

Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson looked set to be United’s first summer signing but that deal broke down over the weekend when United undertook the second part of his medical.

It’s said in the same report today that the Ederson deal is off but United may look to revisit his signing later this summer.

Tielemans’ contract at Villa Park expires in 2028 and would add technical brilliance and Premier League experience to the middle of the park.

It’s currently unclear what fee United will have to pay Villa for the midfielder’s signature, nor his personal demands.
