Teacher admits intercourse with boy, 16, in truck – and is divorcing husband who uncovered her

A teacher has admitted having sex with a 16-year-old boy in a truck in the early hours and is now divorcing the husband who exposed her to police.

Mackenzie Naught, 25, a former first grade teacher in Washington state, US, pleaded guilty to first degree sexual misconduct with a minor after a “twisted affair” with a teenage pupil became the centre of a criminal investigation.

Court documents say the illegal encounter happened on May 3, after the boy initially hesitated but then “caved” and picked Naught up from her home at around 2.15am.

While her husband slept, Naught allegedly asked the teenager to drive her to a “little spot” she knew in rural Harwood Hill.

The pair talked for a while before she leaned in for a kiss and began to “get handsy”, the filings said. The documents state they then had sex inside the vehicle and on the truck bed.

The boy told officers he dropped her back near her home at around 4am, the Sun reported. The case blew open days later after the teen reportedly spoke about the relationship in a Snapchat voice call with Naught’s husband, Garrett.

Garrett told police he had the boy on Snapchat because the couple were friends with the teenager’s family and he also worked as an assistant track coach at the boy’s high school. Naught’s husband reported what he’d heard on May 9, and she was arrested the next day, May 10, The Spokesman-Review reported.

She was later sacked from her job at the St John School District. Under a plea deal reached in July, Naught pleaded guilty to the first degree charge in an agreement aimed at sparing the teen from having to testify at trial. She now faces a maximum of 12 months in county jail, with formal sentencing due next month, in August.

As part of the legal outcome, she must also register as a sex offender for 10 years and is banned from contacting the boy under a five year sexual assault protection order. Public records reportedly also show Naught and her husband have entered divorce proceedings in the wake of the scandal.

Prosecutors said the guilty plea was a key step in bringing the case to a close for the victim and the wider community.
