As Argentina face England in the semi-finals of the World Cup tonight, the BBC will hope to avoid any X-rated blunders during their coverage. The broadcaster was disgraced after accidentally capturing a female fan with her breasts out during Argentina’s win over France in the 2022 final.

Gary Lineker was joined by Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand and Pablo Zabaleta in the studio as they reacted to the historic win in Qatar. The pundits were discussing the penalty shootout as cameras panned over the crowd when the BBC accidentally caught a supporter with her top off.

Several viewers pointed out the blunder on social media as one said: “She’ll get a yellow card for that.”

Another added: “Fortunately, it was the last game. She must be in Jail now,” alluding to the strict laws in the tournament’s host country, Qatar.

The cameras were quick to cut away from the crowd once they spotted the error. The fan was placed at the front of the spectators, with a banner held beneath her.

Once the broadcaster realised she was topless, they panned away to other emotional scenes after Argentina beat France in a tense shootout. England’s upcoming opponents were 2-0 during normal time but a swift Kylian Mbappe brace in the second half sent the game to extra time.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina took the lead once more but Mbappe claimed the second-ever World Cup final hat-trick with a penalty as the game went all the way. Messi and his France counterpart both found the net during the shootout, but misses from Randal Kolo Muani and Aurelien Tchouameni made sure that the trophy would head to Buenos Aires.

England supporters will hope this World Cup will not replicate Argentina’s 2022 heroics as they aim to reach their first final since 1966.
