USA World Cup stars Prem ‘Big Six’ ought to signal together with ace ‘who is aware of the place purpose is’

Much was expected of the USA heading into their home World Cup with Mauricio Pochettino at the wheel.

And it started off in spectacular fashion when they beat Paraguay 4-1 before securing qualification to the knockout stage and topping the group in their second game with a 2-0 win against Australia. Despite being beaten 3-2 by Turkey in the final game, the USMNT made their mark at the tournament.

The only shock in their round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina was Folrian Balogun’s red card and subsequently farcical decision to suspend the suspension. And that was the beginning of a humiliating end as Belgium put them to the sword in the round of 16.

But several stars still made a positive impact at the tournament and could be in line to make the next step in their career, potentially to a big-six club.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sport, via William Hill – Final One Standing, former Liverpool and USA goalkeeper Brad Friedel said: “I would start with Antonee Robinson for sure.

“He has performed well for Fulham now for many years, very consistent, getting forward to contribute with assists and some goals. But proving he is very much in consideration for a big six move.

“I also have to say Balogun could make it at a big six Premier League club, remember he was at Arsenal before moving to Monaco and he definitely has the style of play to be part of a big six squad.

“He knows where the goal is and I believe he can do well. (Christian) Pulisic has already played for a big six team in Chelsea, so he has the experience to play at a high level.”

Fulham’s Robinson was heavily linked with a move away from Craven Cottage in the summer of 2024 and 2025 but a blend of injury and form problems meant he only played 22 times last season.

Christian Pulisic is out of the USA's World Cup clash against Australia

Turning 29-years-old before the start of the new season and his contract expiring in two years’ time, Robinson could prove to be a cut-price squad signing for one of the league’s top clubs.

Meanwhile, Balogun was already at a big six club having come through the ranks at Arsenal, where he only played 10 times. The Brooklyn-born star scored 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games for Reims, putting European clubs on high alert.

It was Monaco who won the race and swooped to sign him in a deal that could reach £34m in 2023. The 25-year-old enjoyed his most prolific season in the Principality last year, scoring 19 in all competitions.

But a name that needs no introduction to Premier League fans is Pulisic, who spent four years at Chelsea, playing 145 times and notching 26 goals as he won the Champions League in 2021.
