English WAG who was slammed for carrying Argentina shirt sends message after semi
This former England Lioness was in the stands for Argentina’s victory over England at the World Cup and was quick to speak out after the match
Marcos Senesi’s English girlfriend has been slammed after the World Cup semi-final for supporting Argentina. But Kelci Bowers, 22, has brushed it off and shared how proud she was of her country after their semi-final defeat to La Albiceleste.
Bowers has made waves during this tournament. The former England youth international and Bournemouth defender is dating Argentina’s Senesi and has been uploading a handful of snaps on her social media donning his nation’s kit.
As Bowers is English and represented her country, some were quick to judge. Even ahead of England’s semi-final clash with Argentina, she leaned towards supporting her partner’s side. But, after the Three Lions were beaten 2-1 in Atlanta, her response on social media was a reminder that her allegiances were split.
Senesi’s girlfriend was present in the stands for Argentina’s triumph and while she celebrated with her boyfriend after the final whistle, on her Instagram story she reinforced her allegiance to England and posted: “Proud of my country.”
Prior to the match, Bowers did acknowledge that the predicament she found herself in was extraordinary. She told The Times: “I grew up wearing an England shirt and had the privilege of representing England, so that connection will always be incredibly strong.
“[But] when your partner is playing in one of the biggest games of his career, naturally you want him to do well too. I’ll be supporting Marcos personally while still feeling incredibly proud whenever I see England on a stage like this. I’m incredibly proud of him.
“Supporting Argentina, embracing the culture in Argentina and posting on my social media wearing the Argentina shirt is something that I’ve been doing. And I don’t really feel like there’s anything wrong with that.”

Bowers crossed paths with Senesi at a photoshoot shortly after joining Bournemouth. Senesi put pen to paper for the Cherries in 2022 and moved to Tottenham on a free transfer this summer. Bowers also left the Vitality Stadium following the end of her contract in June.
“We were both invited to model the club’s retro kit launch at an old American-style diner on the beachfront. It was actually my first week after signing for the club, and I hadn’t really met anyone yet,” he said.
“During the shoot we had a few group photos together, as well as a couple of shots with just the two of us. Afterwards, we started chatting on Instagram. Looking back now, it’s really special that we have those photos from the very first day we met.”
