Royal Mail postman in England shirt ‘kicks tiny blind canine’ that later dies of accidents
A Royal Mail employee allegedly kicked the pet Shih Tzu across a woman’s front yard, with the poor pooch eventually dying as a result of organ failure caused by the strike
A woman says that she has been left ‘heartbroken’ after a England shirt wearing postman allegedly booted her blind pet dog across her front yard, with the poor pooch eventually dying from its injuries.
Owner Eve Lewis, 40, was left gobsmacked after the unnamed postie allegedly “toe-punted” her 11-year-old pet Shih Tzu Ethel at her home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, who as well as being blind also only had one tooth, on Saturday.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, owner Eve described the shock moment that she watched her beloved Ethel suffer the postie’s boot, comparing the contact to a footballer’s kick.
She said: “He didn’t even just kick her, he toe punted her like she was a football. She flew up in the air and hit the ground and rolled three times. She went flying like she was a football.
“The thing is, the driver was walking away and still made the effort to turn around and kick her.”
According to Eve, who lives with her son at the Buckinghamshire property, Ethel was severely injured by the kick and eventually succumbed to organ failure having been rushed to the vet.
She said: “Her blood pressure dropped and they put tubes up her nose. Then they said there’s internal bleeding. At this point, I’m thinking, ‘This literally can’t be happening.’
“From then on, it was just a complete blur. I went home overnight, but when I came back to the vets in the morning, she was pretty much already out of it.”
According to Eve, Ethel was loved in part for her ability to survive hardships, even earning a nickname off the back of this reputation.
She said: “We always called her Ethel 2.0 because after every surgery she had she would bounce back, but she didn’t make it this time. She was an old gal.”
According to the Sun, the Royal Mail employee has been suspended by the service and a police investigation into the incident is underway.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are deeply sorry for this distressing incident, and we know how upsetting it is for the family.
“We are treating this matter very seriously. We have seen the footage and launched a full investigation to establish the circumstances. We have also confirmed to the family that we will cover the veterinary costs.
“We take animal welfare and the safety of our people very seriously. Dog-related incidents can present a serious risk to postal workers.”
