Wayne Rooney didn’t hold back when he was asked by BBC host Gabby Logan for his assessment of the controversial World Cup half-time show
Wayne Rooney delivered a brutal assessment of the World Cup half-time show when asked about his favourite part by BBC host Gabby Logan.
The former England and Manchester United star was quick to reply: “When it finished.” Before explaining his view: “I like a lot of them artists but I thought it was crap.”
Rooney added he would rather see a goal – . The two teams were then held longer than usual for the half-time show, requiring them to warm-up again.

“Rooney, two footed, yesss,” one fan shared on social media. While a second replied: “Wayne Rooney speaking sense, this World Cup really has been strange!”
“Wayne Rooney more critical of the halftime show than Englands 2nd half vs Argentina,” a third shared. As a fourth posted: “Wayne Rooney just had his best World Cup moment…”
And another added: “I don’t think there’s a pundit coming out of this World Cup with higher stocks than Wayne Rooney. Phenomenal pundit and loved his honest review of the half-time show!”
There had been reports, UK broadcasters had planned to skip the halftime show, choosing instead to stick to traditional football coverage and prioritise expert studio analysis of the first half.
However, it was shown in its entirety with performances from Madonna, Justin Bieber, the Muppets, Shakira and Coldplay. There was even a bizarre moment that saw Ronaldo and Ronaldinho in a car with Madonna.
“Ronaldo and Ronaldinho driving Madonna to the World Cup half time show… What is going on,” one fan said.
While another couldn’t get over how American it all was: “This World Cup is an absolute shambles. 30 min halftime show, championship rings, pathetic. Can’t wait for a proper WC back in Europe!”
Another agreed: “Can’t wait for the World Cup halftime show – said no football fan ever.”
Despite the controversy, Shakira took to Instagram ahead of the final to share her excitement.
Along with a photo of Burna Boy, she said: “Getting ready for Sunday! @burnaboygram See you at the @fifaworldcup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go.”
