Donald Trump refused to leave the podium after handing over the World Cup trophy to the winners of the tournament, Spain.

The Spanish side beat the previous champions in extra time as Ferran Torres scored the first goal of the match after Argentina were left with a one-man disadvantage as Enzo Fernandez was sent off in the 93rd minute.

Following their victory, Spain took to the podium one by one to receive their medals before the US President and FIFA President Gianni Infantino handed the trophy to the winners.

However, as Trump shook players hands and pumped his fists in the air he hijacked the moment, refusing to exit the stand.

Infantino attempted to guide a lost looking Trump away from the team, as he remained lurking on the right of the squad, stealing their moment of celebration.

The moment came as no surprise as the US president also broke protocol during the Club World Cup celebrations in 2025.

Last July, he left players confused as he decided to stick with the Chelsea team as they lifted the trophy at the MetLife Stadium.

Footage of the celebrations last summer showed officials try to get Trump to leave, including calls reportedly coming from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who was at one point alongside him.

Similarly this year, Infantino was left with the role of attempting to guide Trump away from the winners to allow them to lift the trophy.

Infantino runs across the front of the team and then ushers the president to the left to exit, but Trump stands his ground as Spain lift the silverware.

As Trump entered the pitch for the ceremony he was loudly booed by fans, for the second time during the final.

Earlier in the match, the camera panned to the president who watched the game alongside Infantino in a suite, and as he waved boos and whistles filled the stadium.

He also sparked further controversy when he was later shown in the suite during the first half touching the World Cup trophy.
