A former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist, LaToya Malcolm, has passed away at 35.

The actress and dance instructor’s death was announced by the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation in a social media tribute on Saturday, but her cause of death was not disclosed.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm,” the organisation wrote.

Miss Universe Jamaica said she would “never be forgotten.”

LaToya was one of the competition’s standout contestants when she competed for the coveted title in 2024 pageant, while she was grieving the loss of her father.

She subsequently won the Miss Jamaica Bikini International title and dedicated her win to her dad in a heartfelt message.

LaToya was invested in the Transition Project, a program that helps underprivileged teenagers prepare for adulthood.

Gabrielle Henry, current Miss Universe Jamaica titleholder, was among those paying tribute.

She said LaToya’s passing is a “a great loss” whose impact and voice “will not be forgotten.”
