Gerwyn Price says he’d ‘slightly be in the home’ and makes World Matchplay admission
Darts star Gerwyn Price has admitted he’s struggling for motivation with darts and “can’t be bothered” – but he’s made his World Matchplay ambitions clear

Gerwyn Price “can’t really be bothered” with darts at the moment. The Welsh arrowsmith was crowned champion of the world just five years ago and is yet to taste World Matchplay glory.
However, heading to Blackpool this time around The Iceman knows his head is simply elsewhere. Since amassing a small fortune from chucking bits of tungsten at a board, Price has become somewhat of an entrepreneur.
In 2020, the former doorman turned thrower began investing in real estate and has a portfolio of various properties across Wales. The 41-year-old often buys homes and flips them at a profit.

In 2024, he became a chip shop owner, converting the local pharmacy in his home village of Markham into Chippy 501.
And to round things off, in February 2026, he purchased a farm in South Wales which he is currently renovating under great stress.
The planning for this new property has zapped his focus at the oche, and his withdrawal from the World Cup of Darts was not due to previously mentioned medical problems.
Speaking in New York at the US Darts Masters, Price said: “I just couldn’t be a**** to be up there. I just had a funny feeling. I’d rather be in the house.
“I just concentrate on my own game, but I don’t know what it is. The last couple of months, I just haven’t been mentally with it and have just been going through the motions.”

Queried about how he can right these wrongs, Price said: “Get the farm finished. I’ve got things going on at home that are distracting me a little bit. So as soon as things go to plan there and things start moving…
“Sometimes it’s a good distraction. It can keep you away from darts a little bit. But I’ve got too much going on at home and too many distractions.
“When I’m away, I don’t want to be away. I want to be at home, and I want things to be happening around the farm and with the planning I’ve got going on. So when I turn up, I can’t be bothered to be there, and it shouldn’t be that way.
“The Matchplay? The [farm] planning is only just going in and it’s a little bit frustrating. My mind’s not where it needs to be.
“I need to try and sort my focus a little bit more with darts. Because I want to win ranking events, I want to win the Matchplay, I want to win the Grand Prix, the Grand Slam, the World Championship.”
The chippy owner claims he still has the hunger to compete in major tournaments, but it was his culinary venture that he admitted sidetracked him in 2024.
Price explained: “That’s probably why I was losing and playing rubbish – my mind was elsewhere. I’m glad now it’s up and running rather than me having to worry about it too much. It wasn’t just about opening it.
“I’ve got cameras in the shop and I was always checking them on my phone. Yeah, it can affect the oche. I’m eating fish and chips all the time. I set up a 10 per cent discount for myself.”
Only time will tell whether the Price of old can stage a coup at the Winter Gardens. From 2017 until 2020, he failed to get past the first round of the Matchplay and in 2021 he could only muster two wins. But in 2022, that curse was truly lifted.
He chucked his way to a first-ever final, hitting a nine-darter in the semis and facing Michael van Gerwen for the crown.
It was MVG who prevailed on that occasion, but a quarter-final visit in 2025 can be built on if Price can relinquish the tractor-based distractions and focus on hitting bullseyes.
