B&Q is recalling a popular product that’s proving handy as Brits continue to grapple with soaring temperatures.

The retailer has issued a recall for its White 9 inch Table Fan following the discovery of a “potential safety issue” with the electrical device.

The Office for Products and Safety Standards stated: “The product presents a risk of electric shock and fire as there is a fault within the oscillation mechanism that can damage internal wiring. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.”

B&Q has recalled the product from customers. Those who own one are urged to cease using the device straight away and take it back to their closest B&Q outlet, reports the Express.

In its recall announcement, B&Q stated: “A potential safety issue has been identified in relation to the White 9 Inch Table Fan sold between March 2026 and July 2026.

“In some cases, an electrical component may overheat leading to a fire or electric shock risk. If you think you have this product, please stop using it immediately and return to your nearest B&Q store for a refund.”

Back in May, B&Q owner Kingfisher reported a dip in sales over recent months as the delayed onset of spring weather held back spending and bigger purchases remained subdued.

The DIY giant, which also owns Screwfix, said total sales declined by 0.9% to £3.3 billion between February and April, compared like-for-like with the same period last year.

In the UK and Ireland, sales at B&Q fell by 4.1%, which the company said reflected a late start to spring resulting in fewer visitors to stores and affecting spending on some of its core items.

Nevertheless, the Screwfix brand continued to strengthen with sales jumping by 4.1% year on year.

Kingfisher chief executive Thierry Garnier said it was a “resilient start to the year” for the retailer while remaining “mindful of the consumer environment”.
