Man Utd dealt brutal harm blow as star pre-season performer hauled off vs PSG
Michael Carrick was handed an injury concern in the 20th minute of Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg on Saturday
Manchester United suffered a fresh injury scare after Mason Mount was replaced during the pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain. Mount has been one of United’s standout players this pre-season, starring alongside new signing Andrey Santos in midfield.
However, 20 minutes into the game against PSG in Gothenburg on Saturday, Mount was replaced after appearing to pick up a knock. He was replaced by Tyler Fletcher with his side 1-0 down at the time.
But in what looked like a positive sign, the England international was able to jog off the pitch before speaking to the United medical staff on the touchline. MUTV then confirmed that the change was made as a precaution.
Since joining United in 2023, Mount has featured in 54 Premier League games out of a possible 114 due to various injuries. And speaking earlier this month, former Red Devils forward Louis Saha claimed his old side needed to replace Mount this summer.
“Man United need to focus on signing four or five quality players before the end of the transfer window this summer,” he told LiveFootballTickets.
“Priority number one is replacing Casemiro with someone who can slot straight into the team with ease, playing two games a week all season long.
“We also need someone who can fill the position of Mason Mount. I’m talking about a dynamic midfielder who can go box to box and score goals.
“Unfortunately, for Mason, he is a terrific player, but we have never seen it at United, so I’d expect him to play a minimal role next season if he remains at the club.
“We need someone who can help Bruno Fernandes create chances and take some of the pressure off him.”
