Champion swimmer ‘beat safety guard to dying with water bottle whereas bare’

A champion swimmer has been accused of beating a security guard to death with a water bottle at a beachfront holiday resort.
Legend Storer was arrested by police while completely naked hours after the fatal incident occurred. The 20-year-old, who was a student-athlete at Concordia University Irvine, has been charged with the murder of Michael Dyer at the Sands of Kahana resort in Maui, Hawaii.
On August 7, the naked swimmer was caught on CCTV making his way up to the security guard at around 1:45 am. Locals said they heard screaming and a massive commotion on the night of the alleged incident.

Gina Lombardi told Hawaii News Now: “I heard a man screaming like Jesus stuff. Jesus loves you. Jesus is me. I am Jesus.’ Really crazy and over and over and over. He probably screamed it like 15 times.”
Police arrested Storer after reports of a naked man wandering around a nearby neighbourhood were made around two hours after the alleged incident. He had been found covered in abrasions and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Officers later responded to a call from the resort where Dyer had been found unresponsive before being pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services. Officers later connected the champion swimmer to Dyer’s death after they looked at CCTV security footage from the resort.
Dyer’s co-worker Bell Hill spoke of the 63-year-old’s character and called him a “great person.”
Hill stated: “He was a great person and he was just in his office having a cheeseburger on his lunch break. And he had a wife that’s a waitress at Leilani’s. It’s horrible.”
Storer was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, burglary with a dangerous instrument and indecent exposure, according to court documents seen by the New York Post.

Storer pleaded not guilty to the charges during a court appearance on Friday. He has been denied bail and is being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center, court records have revealed.
During the hearing, District Court Judge Christopher Dunn stated: “At this time, I can’t think of any combination of conditions that would reasonably ensure the appearance of the defendant or ensure the safety of the community.”
Hawaii News Now have also reported the 20-year-old champion swimmer may also face harsher charges due to new legislation signed into Hawaiian law signed back in 2021.
The new legislation sees increased penalties for crimes which have been committed against kupuna, or seniors who are 60 or older.
