Liverpool need new signings for their understocked squad as Andoi Iraola hopes the club can soon get a huge deal over the line.
The Premier League giants kick off the new season next weekend with a tricky trip away to Newcastle United, but their options in attack are limited following the departure of talisman Mohamed Salah and the longstanding injury to forward Hugo Ekitike. Meanwhile they face a defensive crisis with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni recovering from major injuries, Joe Gomez also on the treatment table, and new signing Jeremy Jacquet not yet fit and ready to play.
Iraola will put his players through their paces today ahead of a final pre-season friendly clash on Sunday, when they face Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas’ Italian outfit Como, who held his former club to a draw midweek. Bradley Barcola update
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi declined to rule out Bradley Barcola departing the club this summer.
Following PSG’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg during the UEFA Super Cup final, a match where Barcola stayed on the bench throughout, the club president told beinSPORTS: “We’re working calmly.
“We don’t talk too much, we do. I can’t say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see!”

PSG manager Luis Enrique was equally evasive before the match in Austria. He said: “I don’t know and I don’t want to speak about any player individually.
“Because it’s always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team.”
Barcola, 23, joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 for £38.5m. The £145m-rated man has won the Champions League twice, along with three Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in his time at Parc de Princes.
Ibrahim Mbaye transfer ‘off’

Liverpool have dampened their pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye after discovering that a double swoop, to secure both him and Barcola for Anfield, would require approximately £171m, reports the Mirror.
Mbaye, 18, can function across both flanks, though consistent opportunities in Paris have proved elusive given Enrique’s inclination towards Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Barcola.
Similar to the latter, the teenager who shone for Senegal at the World Cup remained an unused substitute during the Super Cup triumph against Villa.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested Liverpool have now withdrawn from a prospective agreement following discussions with Mbaye’s representative, Jorge Mendes.
PSG are understood to have established a valuation for Mbaye ranging from £34m to £42m, a figure the Reds apparently consider excessive.
Liverpool are thought to be targeting two fresh wingers during this window. Left-sided attacker Cody Gakpo has been connected with a switch to Tottenham, which might significantly influence Liverpool’s remaining transfer activity this summer.
Arsenal battle lost as tribunal awaits

Arsenal and Liverpool will clash in a tribunal after reportedly failing to reach agreement on compensation for young striker Vincent Joseph.
The 16-year-old has agreed to join the Gunners after leaving Liverpool last month. Joseph had been presented with a scholarship deal by the Reds, but turned it down and moved to Arsenal instead.
The England youth international, who had featured for Liverpool’s under-18s, saw his schoolboy registration deal expire. Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were all said to be keen on securing his services.
However, the reigning Premier League champions prevailed and now must pay a fee to Liverpool. Such compensation is mandatory when a youngster switches clubs prior to penning a professional deal.
The Daily Mail reports the two sides have failed to find common ground and will have the issue resolved at a tribunal. The amount will be determined by the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC).
The PFCC will receive details of the negotiations between both clubs, the terms they presented to Joseph, and his previous career at Liverpool. He has eight goals in nine outings for England under-16s.
