Manchester United are hoping that Andrey Santos is the answer to their midfield problems as Michael Carrick looks to build his team around the new £50million star.
Santos joined United last month from Chelsea in a shock swoop after the Red Devils missed out on their priority targets of Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, who joined Manchester City and Tottenham respectively in combined transfers of £200m.
Given the overhaul needed at Old Trafford, United were unable to match such fees and the board swiftly pivoted to Santos who is an exciting addition with his untapped potential at just 22 and Premier League experience at Stamford Bridge.

Santos joined Chelsea in 2023 from Vasco da Gama in his native Brazil before a successful loan spell at Strasbourg placed him in the Blues’ first team plans.
But having been stuck behind Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the pecking order, Chelsea were happy to cash in on the energetic midfielder who played just 47 times for the club.
Santos signed a contract until 2031 and was joined by his wife Yngryd Freire Santos, who posted a touching message on Instagram celebrating her husband’s move to Manchester United.

She wrote: “Thankful for all that God has done and excited to experience this new chapter! May this journey be blessed, filled with achievements and unforgettable moments.
“We are so proud of you, my love @04Andrey. A testimony so great will come out that it will be impossible to say that it was not God. Come on, United!!!”
Santos has been joined in his European move by Yngryd after the two tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in May 2023, while he was on loan back at Vasco de Gama.
Yngryd frequently posts supportive messages on social media celebrating Santos’ football career, but her account is private, only allowing those lucky enough to be accepted by her to see her posts.

The two have two sons together, with their second child Bryan welcomed to the world in April. Snaps of the family of four were posted to Instagram, with Santos adding the adorable caption: “Our last born has arrived, and with it, even more love was born inside us.
“Thank you God for this perfect miracle Today we can say, with hearts overflowing: with our firstborn and our lastborn, our family is complete. Welcome Bryan! Children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward from Him. Psalms 127:3”
Santos and his family celebrated his eldest son’s birthday with an extravagant Disney-themed party in Brazil, featuring singers, Disney characters and a recreated castle background.
The midfielder has featured prominently for United throughout pre-season after he was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
Despite the heartbreak of missing out on the Brazil squad, Santos has had the perfect opportunity to settle into life at United ahead of the Premier League season opener against Hull City next Saturday.
