Mason Greenwood underneath investigation as UEFA launch probe into ex-Man Utd star’s actions
UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against former Manchester United and now Fenerbahce forward Mason Greenwood after events in the Champions League

Mason Greenwood is under investigation after UEFA launched a probe into the former Manchester United forward’s actions.
Fenerbahce have announced that UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings involving their stars Greenwood and Matteo Guendouzi following last month’s Champions League qualifying play-off against Lyon. The match in France, which the Turkish side clinched 2-1, was marred by chaotic incidents after the final whistle at the Groupama Stadium.
Greenwood is believed to be under scrutiny for his involvement in a post-match altercation, while Guendouzi is accused of inciting Lyon fans as he exited the pitch at full-time.

The dispute escalated into the tunnel, with personnel from both teams getting embroiled. An individual, seemingly wearing a Lyon tracksuit, then appeared and seemed to launch a flying kick at Guendouzi.
Greenwood, 24, also found himself amidst the tumultuous scenes as several Lyon supporters attempted to invade the pitch during Fenerbahce’s celebrations. Fenerbahce have subsequently confirmed that both players are now subject to an investigation by UEFA.
A statement from the club read: “Following the UEFA Champions League Play-Off Round second-leg match, a disciplinary process has been initiated by UEFA concerning our players Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood, as well as our Club.
“Our Club will present the necessary defences before the relevant UEFA committees to protect the rights and interests of both our players and Fenerbahce. All required information, documents, and defences will be submitted to UEFA, and developments are being closely monitored by our Club. We present this to the public for information.”

Following the match, Guendouzi expressed his feeling of disrespect from the home supporters, he said: “You know, when you’ve got 60,000 people insulting your family, your mum, your children – even before the match – and nobody from the refereeing team tells the stadium to be quiet.
“Because I know that in France, when this sort of thing happens, there comes a point where they’ll speak to the supporters and the match might be stopped. For 90 minutes – even longer if you count the warm-up – they were insulting my family.
“That really gets to you. If you want to banter, then it goes both ways. They insulted my mum and my family; to me, that was disrespectful.”
Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal then extended his full backing to the French international. “As a team we all stood together to support Guendouzi. Support was provided. That is what teamwork is all about.”
Greenwood was a member of the Fenerbahce team that made it to the Champions League main draw for the first time since 2009. They will go up against AS Roma, Aston Villa, Slavia Praha, Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk, LASK, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid in the league stage.
With United also making a comeback to the competition, there’s a possibility Greenwood could come up against his old club, but only if both sides advance through the league phase. Greenwood transferred to Fenerbahce from Marseille on a four-year contract in July.
