Reality star suing TV present for £73million after ‘leg ripped off’ whereas filming sequence
A reality TV personality is suing the show he took part in for $100m after his leg was torn off in the Caribbean Sea while he was on set filming for the next season

A reality TV star is suing the show he went on for $100m (£73.7m) after his leg was completely severed. 22-year-old Stavros Floros was involved in an accident in the Caribbean Sea while spearfishing, which he claims Survivor Greece contestants were required to do to find food.
The reality TV personality said it was a “miracle” that he survived the gruesome ordeal after his leg was torn off right above the knee by a tourist boat propellor. The incident took place near Saona Island in the Dominican Republic and court documents detailed the accident, saying that when he lost his leg on 11 May Floros only survived because a “tourniquet [was] applied by a stranger aboard the offending tourist boat”.
The contestant was transferred to Miami hospital and remained there for two months as he underwent multiple surgeries. He alleges that the Survivor Greece crew allowed the participants to swim in the open water without sufficient warnings.

Floros also alleges that no safety boats or protection zones were in place while he was filming for the show’s 13th series. However, Acun Medya alleged to the Toronto Sun that the incident occurred while the cast and crew were taking a break from filming.
The statement read: “Out of a sense of responsibility toward the public and, above all, toward the contestant himself, we consider it necessary to clarify the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred. The accident appears to have happened while he was spearfishing outside the competitive process of the reality show.”
“From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant, while the port authorities are investigating the incident.”

Skai Television has suspended the broadcast of the show and told Greek media outlet eKathimerini: “Despite the fact that the production of Survivor is carried out exclusively under the control of Acun Medya, Skai is closely monitoring the participant’s health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment and rehabilitation care that may be required.”
Floros has spoken to US Magazine and gave them a statement: “I want the world to know the truth: that I went on a reality show and ended up with only one leg at 22 years old, having felt like I was slowly dying. I want people to know that they didn’t look after us, that I haven’t received the proper support from the production company, and that no matter what happens, you must always keep your head held high and keep faith in God.”

“I also hope it helps prevent similar situations that cause this kind of harm to people and serves as an example for producers of similar concepts to truly look after the people under their responsibility.”
Floros’ lawyer Jason Margulies said: “We see heartbreaking events like this more and more often. When huge companies take short cuts and cut corners to maximise profits, it often comes at the cost of public safety, which is absolutely unacceptable.”
