‘Shameless Nigel Farage is the unhealthy boss from hell and a cynical con man, heading a toxic Reform’
Infamy, infamy – they’ve all got it in for me.
Tetchy Nigel Farage mutating into a hapless Kenneth Williams in the latest episode of the Carry On Reform farce leaves most voters jeering at a dodgy trickster going backwards, not forwards, to Downing Street.
The mocking Greenpeace banner delaying his heckler-interrupted big speech, under-powered by his standards, symbolised a Hard-Right party losing control, reeling under scrutiny, Farage’s mini-Trump tribute act past its sell-by date with Donald of Iran bombing here. Reform zealots in Birmingham saluting their leader are on another planet in believing the latest financial scandal to engulf the party was a hoax or doesn’t matter, wild-eyed conspiracy theorists screaming they’re victims of conspiracies.
Shameless Farage, a career politician who cons and tricks the public by forever portraying himself as the persecuted outsider, is the bad boss from hell sacrificing two of his closest, most important aides, Dan Dukes and James Orr, to save his own skin over what Nasty Nige disingenuously dismissed as a “little local difficulty” and “loose pub talk”.
The filmed cosy private chat over oysters and wine confirmed that Reform is a sleazy, poisonous and, mercifully, amateur organisation. Operation Save Nigel after the claims of dodgily-funded opinion polls and discussion of what would be illegal foreign donations will repel curious floating voters already deserting a leader and party leaking support – one recent survey even putting them in third place behind Kemi Badenoch’s Conservatives as well as Andy Burnham’s revived Labour.
Farage attempting to project confidence, signing a phantom migrant returns agreement with Far-Right French hate-monger Jordan Bardella, a statement not worth the giant card it was printed on when both aren’t in power, may well hide inner turmoil and doubt.
Beating a bin in a farcical Clacton by-election he called proved both humiliating, Farage skipping the declaration, and resolved absolutely nothing – but did underline his judgement is flawed. The Westminster inquiry into his secret personal £5million ‘bung’ resumed and wasn’t scuppered, and could yet trigger a second, real contest.
Farage may face another over expensive unregistered housing, drivers, security and social media punting from aristo wealthy benefactor and convicted fraudster “Posh George” Cottrell. Then there is the police investigation into £500,000 donated to Reform by Posh George’s blue-blood mother Fiona Cottrell and the origin of that money in what could prove the most explosive ticking time bomb.
No wonder wannabes in the Reform hierarchy mutter serial quitter Farage could chuck his toys out of the pram again, petulantly resigning to spend more time with other people’s money, as his Prime Minister dream turns into a nightmare.
Super rich Reform banker Zia Yusuf and Tory turncoat Robert Jenrick appear to think so by running what sound and look like undeclared leadership campaigns to fill a vacancy.
Momentum is vital in politics and Farage is stuck in reverse, a conference supposed to be a relaunch pad showing he and Reform remain in a hole and are still digging.
