Two Metropolitan Police officers have been arrested following allegations linked to a wild, alcohol-fuelled trip to Hungary with colleagues. A group of 15 off-duty officers, including constables and sergeants serving at the same station, flew out to Budapest for a summer getaway, renting an Airbnb for the break.

However, the boozy holiday reportedly descended into chaos after a wild night reportedly led to a group sex session. A female officer on the trip subsequently filed an official complaint regarding the behaviour of two male colleagues, triggering an immediate internal probe.

Last week, two constables were taken into custody – one on Monday on suspicion of assault, and a second on Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault.

The woman alleges that one officer forcefully grabbed her by the arm to move her to his room. While there is no suggestion he attempted to have sex with her, the action forms the basis of the assault complaint. She claims she was sexually assaulted by a second male officer later that same night.

Senior officers have convened a strategic “Gold Group” to handle the fallout from the incident, which is claimed to have left force bosses ashamed.

A source told the Sun: “It shows just how deeply embarrassed the Met are by this. It beggars belief that this could happen. An official internal probe is trying to establish exactly what happened on this trip.”

Investigating detectives from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards are also examining the conduct of senior staff on the trip, questioning how sergeants present allowed the situation to escalate.

Another source told the newspaper: “’There were sergeants on the trip and questions are being asked over how they let these scenes go on.

“It is one thing to say that what goes on while on tour should stay on tour, but these were apparently wild scenes which have led to criminal complaints. There seems to have been a complete lack of supervision by the skippers.’”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Two serving officers have been arrested following an investigation by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.

“One officer, attached to Central North Command, was arrested on Monday, 31 August on suspicion of assault.

“A second officer, attached to the same command, was arrested on Thursday, 3 September on suspicion of sexual assault. The incidents are reported to have taken place in Budapest.

“Both officers were bailed and have been suspended from duty, and enquiries continue into what is a complex investigation. All allegations of criminality or misconduct by officers are treated with the utmost seriousness.”
