Rogue cosmetic cowboys are risking lives by performing Brazilian butt lifts with scalpels in their living rooms, experts have warned. Patients are being left with botched results “like something out of a horror film” after undergoing potentially dangerous procedures at the hands of unqualified practitioners.
Experts told MPs the “backstreet beauticians” are advertising extensively on social media and operating “almost like a criminal underground” as demand for cosmetic treatments grows.
Ashton Collins, director of government-approved register Save Face, said the problem had escalated amid a failure by ministers to bring in tougher regulation.
She issued the warning alongside Nora Nugent, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, who also called for urgent action to protect patients.

The Government announced plans in August last year to crack down on the risky cosmetic procedures by introducing new regulations aimed at stopping unqualified operators carrying out high-risk treatments.
But a promised consultation on the rules has yet to materialise, prompting fears patients are continuing to be put at risk while ministers consider their next move.
Ms Collins and Ms Nugent told the parliamentary hearing the Government should now dispense with further consultations and take more immediate action.
Their warnings come amid concern over the ease with which potentially dangerous treatments can be promoted online and carried out away from properly regulated medical settings.
It comes after blokes were warned over wanting to increase the size of their manhood using cheap, dodgy fillers. Top docs say unqualified injectors are leaving patients with lumpy results, infections and, in extreme cases, tissue damage.
Dr Syed Nadeem Abbas, of Dr SNA Clinic, warned: “Honestly, it’s lip filler all over again.
“The treatment gets popular, the prices start dropping, and before long you’ve got people injecting the penis who’ve maybe done a weekend course on faces.”
