Dirty socks

My partner wants to give up her well-paid job to become a sexy online performer.

She’s convinced she’ll be able to earn thousands from her bedroom. I think she’s deluded. For a start, she doesn’t like stripping off, even in front of me. She always keeps a T-shirt on during sex and is self-conscious of her big boobs.

Secondly, she’s not someone who suffers fools gladly, she’s always arguing with people who she feels are stupid. She’s having her head turned by a mate who has embraced this life and found her ‘niche’ (sending dirty socks). My girl is not easy going; she has a thin skin and is quick to anger. How do I convince her to stick to the day job?

JANE SAYS: Express your thoughts and fears in a calm, controlled way. Explain that you feel uncomfortable at the thought of her stripping off for paying punters. What if it all gets out of hand? What if she regrets her actions in future?

Then leave your girl to make up her own mind. It’s her life.

This matter is between her and her and conscience.

Is she going to tell friends and family or is this new career path going to be a guilty sin?

Also remind her, if you’re living together, that bills will still have to be paid. Giving up a steady job is always a risk. Is she sure she’s doing the right thing?

If she is, then you need to consider whether you wish to stick around…

Queen Bee stings

I dared to go home ‘early’ (9pm) from a girl’s night out. Six of us were in a bar. I’d had a hard day and wanted my bed. I boldly defied my ‘Queen Bee’ friend when she shouted ‘shots!’.

I said: “no thanks’ and she went wild. She accused me of spoiling the fun. She grabbed my bag and wouldn’t let go – she was furious with me for disobeying her (for the first time in five years of friendship).

Now I’m paying the price and other friends are too scared to contact me for fear of upsetting her. Help.

JANE SAYS: What a horrible sounding person.

If she’s controlled you for five years, then you’re well out of it. As an adult, you’re entitled to do what you like; you should never feel obliged to stay out late and drink purely to placate another (more dominant) individual.

I suggest you do absolutely nothing at all. Give yourself a break and get your life back. If she does reach out to you, then talk. Personally, I think you’ve had a lucky escape. This is a chance for you to shed the past and start again on a more mature footing with people who are your equal.

Fishy behaviour

Every time my sister-in-law comes over, something gets broken. Last weekend she was here and managed to smash two crystal glasses. In the past, I’ve found cracked mugs and plates. One time the bathroom mirror was hanging off. I think she’s so jealous that she deliberately lashes out. What can I do?

JANE SAYS: What does your partner think? Must you only meet your sister-in-law on neutral territory (a café? Pub? Your in-law’s home) in future?

Your need to trust your instincts because you know your home best. Sadly, if she can’t be trusted, then she’ll have to pay the price by not being invited over again. Don’t make accusations you can’t back up with hard evidence.
