Mr England organisers worry nationwide ‘hunk shortage’ after simply seven males enter
The UK is reportedly facing a nationwide “hunk shortage” after just seven men entered the chance to represent England at the Mr World competition, despite the female version attracted thousands

Mr England organisers fear a nationwide “hunk shortage” in this year’s competition after only a handful of men entered.
The hunt for male competitors was launched over the summer – but only seven men have entered so far. Organisers say the nation’s single blokes are proving “shy and slow” in coming forward to win the chance to become Mr World.
In contrast, the Miss England beauty contest attracts thousands of entries each year with women wanting to be crowned the next Miss World.
Miss England semi-finalists are now being asked to nominate friends and boyfriends in the hope of boosting numbers for male competition.

A similar dilemma happened two years ago when the then-reigning Miss England and lifeguard Milla Magee took to her local beach in Newquay looking for “handsome men”.
As a result more than 100 males suddenly entered, including King’s Guard Manuel Alcantara Turner, who went on to win and briefly dated Milla.
Now the contest is hoping for another influx of entrants ahead of this year’s final which will be held in Melton Mowbray, Leics, next month.
Organiser Angie Beasley said: “It may be because female beauty pageants are more well known and advertised more as well as being more accepted than males ones.
“Or maybe they are just shy putting themselves forward.
“This week we are asking our current Miss England semi finalists to nominate a male due to the lack of entries.
“But the opportunities and rewards are the same – the guys get the opportunity to represent England internationally and who knows where it could lead.”
Lads aged between 17-27 who are “single, confident, sporty, good looking, charitable and charismatic” are now being urged to enter the contest online.
The Mr England contest takes place at Melton Theatre on October 11.
