Britain could be hit by a dramatic temperature drop later this month

Britain could be hit by a dramatic temperature drop later this month, with fresh weather maps indicating parts of the nation might witness the mercury plummeting to -1C. The newest charts from WXCharts indicate that chillier conditions could take hold of sections of the UK on Thursday, October 22.

The maps, accurate for 6am, reveal temperatures tumbling to approximately -1C across portions of the Scottish Highlands, particularly throughout northern Scotland, where the most bitter conditions are anticipated.

In other areas, temperatures might fall to roughly 1C to 3C throughout central and southern Scotland, while northern England could experience lows of between 2C and 4C.

Moving further south, temperatures are predicted to stay somewhat warmer, with the majority of southern England facing lows of approximately 4C to 6C, though some regions could feel notably nippy during the early hours. The charts indicate a more frigid period could emerge as Britain progresses further into autumn, with briefer days and extended nights raising the chances of nocturnal temperature plunges.

Nevertheless, the forecast merely provides a tentative projection, reports the Express. The Met Office has presented a contrasting perspective, indicating temperatures might stay above average throughout much of the nation.

In its forecast spanning Wednesday, October 14, to Friday, October 23, the national weather service anticipates unsettled conditions, with Atlantic low-pressure systems delivering bouts of rain and powerful winds. It stated: “Remaining changeable through this period, as a series of low pressure systems run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK.”

The weather expert went on to say that western and northwestern regions might see above-average rainfall, while southern and eastern parts could benefit from extended dry periods.

Although there’s a chance of short-lived cooler spells, the Met Office anticipates temperatures will stay “a little above average in many areas”, with southeastern Britain possibly seeing some exceptionally mild weather for October.

This forecast has been backed up by another weather service, Netweather, which has predicted temperature levels could climb to 21C on Tuesday (October 13).
