Boy imprisoned teen lady for practically a month ‘so he may rape her a number of occasions’
WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: Lucan Wright, 20, was jailed for 15 years after a court ruled he was a dangerous offender who poses a real threat to women and girls after being found guilty of rape
A teenage girl was held captive against her will for nearly a month during a horrifying campaign of abuse by a rapist. Lucan Wright, 20, was just 17 years old when he raped a girl and a woman in two separate attacks.
Both were sexually assaulted in Nottinghamshire by Wright during 2023. These weren’t one-off incidents, with Wright raping the woman and teenage girl on multiple occasions.
His grave sexual crimes were coupled with violent threats and controlling and coercive conduct towards both victims, reports Nottinghamshire Live. After carrying out those offences as a teenager, he then put a third victim through a sustained violent nightmare between last December and January this year.
Throughout this timeframe, a teenage girl was held prisoner in a Worksop home against her will for almost a month by Wright. His litany of crimes was ultimately exposed when his three victims each made the courageous choice to approach police and reveal what he had done to them.
He subsequently faced charges including multiple counts of rape, engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour, strangulation, false imprisonment and making threats to kill.
Wright, of Northumbria Close, Worksop, was additionally charged with multiple counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating. While he pleaded guilty to those charges, he contested the remainder, leading to a trial at Nottingham Crown Court that finished in July this year.
He was found guilty of each of the remaining charges. Appearing via video link, Wright was deemed a dangerous offender by Judge Michael Auty, who imposed an extended 15-year custodial sentence.
He received 12 years behind bars – of which he must serve a minimum of half before being eligible for release – followed by a further three years on licence. Wright will be required to register as a sex offender for life, and was also subjected to a restraining order. This will remain in place until further notice and prohibits him from making any contact with his three victims.
Detective Constable Chloe Buckley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “As the judge rightly summarised, Lucan Wright is a dangerous individual who poses a real threat to women and teenage girls. It is hard to comprehend the harrowing experience each of these three victims were put through at the hands of Wright.
“He was responsible for raping two of them on more than one occasion and for subjecting the other to a horrible ordeal of prolonged violence. These are horrendous crimes that can devastate people’s lives, so it is to their absolute credit that they found the strength to come forward.
“The bravery they showed played a critical role in ensuring the truth about Wright was revealed and he received this deserved custodial sentence. Putting a stop to all incidents of violence against women and girls remains a key priority for this police force. We hope this sentence encourages more victims to have the confidence to report offenders, so we can put them before the courts.”
