Footy fan retains his finger pickled in a jar after ripping it off going for a wee
Shane Storr, 38, Lincoln City fan went to watch his team play at home against Bolton on Valentines Day but he ended up without a finger
A football fanatic has revealed how he now keeps one of his fingers pickled in a jar after he accidentally ripped it off when he jumped a fence. Shane Storr lost a digit when he hopped over a fence for a post-match wee.
The 38-year-old Lincoln City fan went to watch his team play at home against Bolton Wanderers on Valentines Day in 2026 when his girlfriend had got him tickets as a present.
But a few pints in, he was desperate for a wee after leaving the ground. He decided to hop over a fence after leaving the game to spend a penny in a bush over a fence near the ProAmpac Stadium while waiting for his lift home.
But as he hopped over the 4ft fence he fell backwards, catching his wedding ring on the corner of the fence and degloving his left finger, leaving him in agony. Degloving is a severe injury that happens when the top layers of skin and tissue are ripped from the underlying muscle, connective tissue or bone.
Emergency services were called and paramedics rushed to the scene and administered first aid on the dad-of-six, eventually finding his lost finger on the floor near a KFC.
After scooping it up from the ground they stashed it in a takeaway cup and ice from the fast food chain and took it with them to hospital.
Stomach-churning photos show Shane nursing his bloody hand after the horror accident.
Sadly, Shane’s finger couldn’t be saved so he had the remainder amputated on February 17 2026 and opted to take the fleshy stump home as a gruesome souvenir.
Now displayed in a jar of rubbing alcohol in his ‘The Nine Fingers Inn’ man cave, Shane is urging people to wear silicone rings so if they catch it, the band will break and prevent injury.
Shane, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, said: “It was just crazy. I’d cut the game short and I was waiting to get a lift but I’d had a couple of beers at the football and I needed to take a leak. I was just waiting on the streets, I nipped over this fence.
“I’ve still got the wedding ring, that didn’t even snap, and that’s caught on the corner of the fence post and it’s snagged on it.
“As I’ve done that all my body weight has just gone down. I fell backwards down the hill, I looked at my finger and it was completely degloved.
“I didn’t think it was as bad as it was. I’ve ended up losing a wedding finger. They found my finger, out opposite KFC, so they ran over and got KFC and they put it on ice in a KFC cup. I just couldn’t breathe properly [from the pain], I felt like I was going into shock.”
Stunned Shane was rushed to hospital where doctors desperately tried to save his finger, but were unable to.
Shane said: “I’m trying to make the most of it, at the end of the day it’s a loss but it’s not the end of the world. In the end I didn’t even have my pee so it was all for nothing.
“I’ve still got the finger in a jar with alcohol. I’ve built a man cave and I’ve got the jar so I just need to build a little shrine for it. It’s going to be called ‘The Nine Finger inn.”
On a trip to Benidorm on October 3, Shane got a loading symbol tattoo, joking that he’s waiting for his wedding finger to grow back.
Shane said: “I’ve wanted this tattoo for a long time, pretty much since I had it done, I was thinking ‘how can I make this look cool?’. I showed everyone and it’s had a great reaction, I wasn’t really expecting it. It’s funny and it’s quirky.
“Never wear your gold ring, get a rubber one. I’m looking at getting a silicone ring now because I still want people to know I’m a married man.
“I always recommend men to get a silicone ring because if it [the same thing] did ever happen the ring will snap off and not your finger.”
