‘Lame duck’ Donald Trump faces mutiny as allies ‘will block him from nuclear button’
A humiliated Donald Trump is facing a MAGA mutiny as allies move to block the toothless ‘lame duck’ from launching a nuclear strike, an expert has warned
A humiliated Donald Trump faces an explosive mutiny from his own inner circle, with officials ready to block him from triggering a devastating nuclear strike, an expert has claimed. The 80-year-old US President has been left severely weakened following a brutal midterm wipeout that saw Democrats sweep both the House and the Senate in a historic blue tsunami.
Fears have been raised by some observers that a cornered, vengeful Trump could lash out by unleashing atomic hell on Iran.
However, Dr Tim Galsworthy, lecturer in history at Lincoln Bishop University, reckons political insiders would move to neutralise the threat before he can strike.
The expert told the Star that the battered Commander-in-Chief has instead been left as a toothless figurehead.
Addressing fears over an apocalyptic strike on Tehran, Dr Galsworthy said: “I’m not sure anyone would let him go that far. From January, Trump will be a lame duck.
“He cannot succeed himself and he doesn’t have Congress anymore. Watch those Republicans who are positioning for 2028. They’re going to have to work out what their relationship with Trump is, and they’re going to have to try and separate in some way.”
The historian warned that a civil war could be brewing at the top of the MAGA movement, with Trump’s closest allies, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, tipped to stage an intervention to muzzle him.
“What I would say is, it will be interesting to see whether some of the Trump team, in particular Vice President Vance and Marco Rubio, try to rein him in,” Dr Galsworthy said. “They might try to create a bit of space between themselves and Trump.”
“It’s not insignificant that a number of the people who’ve been elected are either quite critical or very critical of US foreign policy around Iran, and will look to pen Trump in and force him to change course.”
Dr Galsworthy pinpointed the root cause of the Republican party’s catastrophic defeat as being down to the fury of ordinary voters battered by the cost of living.
“The economy is the primary reason that the Republicans have got a kicking,” he said. “It’s because prices have gone up in supermarkets.”
When asked whether Trump was likely to change course on Iran, he added: “A normal politician would absolutely change course. What Trump does on that, it’s hard to predict.”
Brits fearing Trump could trigger global economic chaos and hike UK food and energy bills once again have also been offered some relief.
Dr Galsworthy said: “If he is forced into de-escalation in the Middle East, you would hope that won’t happen.”
The expert’s assessment comes as a source told the Daily Mail an enraged Trump was left “paralysed into silence” in his darkened White House residence as the midterm results rolled in. Trays of celebratory food reportedly went stale as panicked aides fled into the night.
Meanwhile, defeated MAGA candidate Bobby Charles told Politico he was “optimistic” because “Trump’s going to be gone in two years.”
Trump himself lashed out on Truth Social, claiming he would have won “in a landslide” if his name was on the ballot.
But with Congress gone and allies looking to keep him off the red button, the president faces two years locked in his own cage.
