Jake Paul drives himself to hospital after horrific Anthony Joshua defeat

Anthony Joshua beat Jake Paul via sixth-round TKO in Miami on Friday night (December 19), but the Problem Child’s injuries were so bad, he had to head to hospital with a broken jaw

Jake Paul has rushed himself to hospital after claiming he sustained a broken jaw during his devastating sixth-round knockout loss to Anthony Joshua on Friday evening (December 19).

The YouTuber-turned-fighter was widely expected to be demolished early on in his Miami clash with the former two-time heavyweight world champion. Right from the start, it appeared Joshua had his work cut out, as 28-year-old Paul capitalised on the larger ring dimensions. ‘AJ’ found himself increasingly frustrated after missing numerous punches and wild swings in the early bouts of the fight.

Paul was lucky as he enjoyed some modest success when moving forward, although nothing genuinely threatened the heavyweight world champ. Eventually, the Brit stopped playing and got down to business, flooring his opponent twice in the fifth before securing a sixth-round TKO.

Joshua will undoubtedly feel embarrassed by his performance, having taken over five rounds to finish the boxing newcomer. Paul, for his part, was proud in the way he had handled himself in the ring, whilst acknowledging his opponent had dome some major damage, according the Mirror.

“That was crazy, I had a blast, I’m blessed by God to put on a performance like this,” Jake said after the fight. “Anthony is a great fighter, I got my arse beat.

“But I’ll come back and keep winning,” Paul added, shortly after spitting blood onto the ring floor. “I’ve already won in every single way in life: my family — my jaw is broken by the way, it’s definitely broke, nice little a** whooping from one of the best to ever do it.

“Honestly, I’m not surprised, I just got tired, so much handling his weight, I think with better cardio, I could’ve kept fighting. I did my personal best; for sure, we’ll heal the broken jaw, go back, fight people my own weight and go for the cruiserweight world title.”

During the post-fight press conference, MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian offered an update on Paul’s medical status, confirming the American was heading to hospital. “We think he broke his jaw,” he revealed.

“He’s fine. We met with Netflix afterwards; he took a shower. He drove himself to the hospital. A broken jaw is common in sports, particularly in boxing or MMA, and I think the recovery time is four to six weeks.”

Paul, 28, is likely to receive a compulsory 60-day ban from the Florida Athletic Commission. The suspension could be lengthened based on further medical assessments.

Paul revealed after the clash he’ll step away from boxing temporarily whilst considering his future plans. Joshua, meanwhile, appears to have his sights set on a particular opponent.

The British star was delighted to shake off some rust, despite both fighters being jeered by the crowd throughout the bout in the arena. Within moments of the exhibition ending, Joshua was swift to lay down his next gauntlet, demanding an all-British heavyweight clash with long-standing adversary Tyson Fury.

“And if Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves and come out and fight one of the realest fighters that will take on any challenge. Step in the ring with me next if you are a real bad boy; don’t do all of that talking ‘AJ this, AJ that,” let’s see you in the ring and talk with your fists,” he declared.

Joshua’s promoter was equally swift to comment on what lies ahead for his headline act, declaring: “Listen, we want the Tyson Fury fight, of course. That’s the fight. it’s the biggest fight in boxing. And respect to that man as well, he did a great job tonight. Good rounds in the bank for Anthony Joshua. 2026, back to the real business… Tyson Fury in the world heavyweight championship.”
