M1 southbound closed after lorry bursts into flames inflicting site visitors chaos

A lorry erupted into flames this afternoon, causing a section of the motorway to come to a halt.
Traffic has been halted on the M1 southbound between Northampton and Milton Keynes, with two out of four lanes shut between junction 15 (Northampton) and junction 14 (Milton Keynes).
According to National Highways East, there is approximately a one-hour delay and six miles of congestion on approach, reports the Mirror. National Highways East said traffic has been released on the M1 southbound between junctions 15 (Northampton) and 14 (Milton Keynes).
It added: “3 lanes (of 4) remain closed at this time whilst a complex recovery operation is ongoing. There’s an hour delay and 6 miles of congestion on approach.”
It said in a further statement that recovery is complete and clear-up work is now underway. Delays of around one hour remain, with five miles of congestion.
Photos have revealed that the fire has now been extinguished.
