Kremlin mocks French president over Greenland stance and says ‘they’re going to simply s*** their pants’
The Kremlin has openly mocked French President Emmanuel Macron’s warnings over US attempts to annex Greenland, with Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev ridiculing France’s stance
The Kremlin has ridiculed France’s tough talk over Greenland. France President Emmanuel Macron’s warnings were mocked by Russia with crude taunts amid a heated diplomatic row.
Taking to his X page (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday (January 14), Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, made blunt remarks referring to a major diplomatic confrontation between US President Donald Trump and European leaders over the sovereignty of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.
He wrote: “The Gallic cock has crowed that, if the sovereignty of Denmark is affected, the consequences would be unprecedented.” The “Gallic cock” pokes fun at Macron (the rooster is the national symbol of France), who earlier that day issued a stern warning against US attempts to annex Greenland.
Medvedev further stated: “Ooh, what they will do?! Kidnap POTUS?
“Nuke the US? Course not.
“They’ll just s–t their pants and give up Greenland. And that’d would be a great European precedent.”
The former president of Russia’s questionable post ignited divided reactions, as an X user commented: “And meanwhile Russia is approaching its 4th year of losing its war in Ukraine.” A person wrote: “I’m sure Trump is terrified by the threats of a man who gets beaten by his wife.”
Someone else penned: “Come on dude you’re smart enough to know what’s going on here.” Another observer noted: “You cannot fight an empire with a bow and arrow, especially if both the bow and arrow are produced in the empire.”
A separate individual chimed in: “Dmitry what amateurs do you have running foreign policy? Russia has become a laughing stock.
“Sad state of affairs. If only you had the Emperor providing energy for the motherland.”
Earlier this month, Trump declared that US control of Greenland is an “absolute necessity” for national security and vital for his “Golden Dome” missile defense system. He also argued that if the US does not take control, Russia or China will.
During a cabinet meeting today, Macron consequently stated that if the sovereignty of Denmark were affected, the “cascading consequences would be unprecedented”. He reaffirmed that France would act in “full solidarity” with Denmark.
This dispute has pushed the NATO alliance to a breaking point. Furthermore, Denmark has rejected any sale of Greenland, and its Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, warned that a forced US takeover would end the transatlantic alliance.
By now mocking Macron, Medvedev likely intends to highlight division within NATO, specifically the irony of European nations defending an ally against the United States while Russia remains in its own conflict with the West.
