Armed moped gang caught on CCTV raiding luxurious Rolex retailer in broad daylight
Six suspects on mopeds raided a Bucherer Rolex specialist store in Knightsbridge, London, threatening staff and public with machetes and stealing high-value watches
Dramatic footage captured by an eyewitness reveals the moment a moped gang brazenly raided a Rolex store in one of London’s poshest areas — in broad daylight. A Bucherer shop in the upscale Knightsbridge area, specialising in Rolex watches, was hit by a group of six alleged armed robbers on Tuesday (January 20).
The riders, clad in all black and sporting motorcycle helmets, nicked multiple items and brandished weapons at staff and bystanders, according to the Metropolitan Police. The video shows the gang charging into the store while passers-by appear to nonchalantly continue on their way.
A 20-year-old man, who asked to remain anonymous for his safety, claims that he saw one of the six wielding a machete. The witness, who was working across the street, estimates that the watches swiped from the Bucherer Rolex Boutique just before 11am were worth more than £200,000.
He recounted: “I was just coming out of my job and all of a sudden all these mopeds turned up.” He added they “just smashed the store up and started robbing it,” leaving him completely floored.
“There was one at the front with a machete throwing it around at people,” he recalled. “I think one of the ladies inside was hit, but I am not sure how true that is.
“They took about 22 watches in total; I think they were worth a couple hundred thousand. There was a big police presence of about 10 or 15 cars by the end of it; armed police and everything.”
“I have seen all kinds of things in London but this is probably the craziest so far. It was a bit of a panic to film while watching it, it was definitely a bit of a breath taker.”
Launching their own investigations, the Met stated: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Knightsbridge. We were called at 10:53hrs on Tuesday, 20 January, to reports of a robbery in progress at a shop on Knightsbridge; officers were on the scene within minutes.
“Six suspects wearing motorcycle helmets attended the store, with a number entering and threatening staff and members of the public with weapons, including machetes. A moped was also used to enter the shop.
“The offenders made off on four mopeds after taking a number of high-value watches, leaving a stolen moped behind in the store. No injuries were reported.”
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather from the Met’s Flying Squad, who is leading the investigation, added: “This robbery was carried out in a busy part of London, and we understand the alarm it has caused. The Flying Squad specialises in tracking down organised robbers who use violence and intimidation, and our officers are working to identify and arrest those responsible.
“Officers were on scene within minutes and investigators are working at pace to piece together the offenders’ movements. We are determined to find those involved and bring them to justice as swiftly as possible.”
