Jaime King breaks silence on shock divorce from Austin Sosa after secret marriage ceremony

A ‘blindsided’ Jamie King has broken her silence after new husband Austin Sosa filed for divorce after less than a year of marriage.

King, 46, married Sosa sometime after getting engaged in July 2025, but her spouse has reportedly filed paperwork to dissolve the marriage.

Now King has revealed her shock at learning Sosa had wanted to legally sever ties. 

‘I was completely blindsided by the divorce filing, which came out of nowhere,’ she told Us Weekly.

She claimed she had been with Sosa the night before the divorce went public and sincerely thought they were repairing their relationship.  

‘I was with Austin the night before it became public, and while like many marriages we had normal challenges, I genuinely believed we were working on our relationship,’ she said. 

King also recently made headlines after she was spotted with hotelier Vikram Chatwal. 

‘Any recent interactions being referenced publicly were strictly professional business meetings and have no connection to this private matter,’ she said in her statement. 

The actress, who shares children James, 12, and Leo, 10, with ex-husband Kyle Newman, is now focused on her kids. 

King was revealed to be engaged to Sosa last year in July 2025 and the actress secretly tied the knot with the business investor sometime afterwards, according to online records obtained by TMZ. A marriage date is not yet known.  

Sosa officially filed the divorce paperwork on Thursday, but a date and reason for the separation have also not been disclosed, TMZ reported. 

The star confirmed the engagement to People back in July, with her rep telling the outlet at the time that she ‘is very close with his family.’

King had ‘stayed with his parents’ after moving out of her Los Angeles residence earlier last year.

The rep added that the star is ‘happy to share this moment with her children, who have a loving bond with Austin and his family.

‘As always, her sons remain her top priority, and she kindly asks for privacy as they move forward together with love and gratitude.’

King was last married to filmmaker and actor Kyle Newman for 16 years, and their divorce finalized in 2023. 

Following the split, the former couple entered a lengthy custody battle over their two children, but last year in March, Newman was granted sole physical custody of their sons.

A judge also ruled that visits with her sons needed to be supervised until she finished six months of a mandated drug/alcohol program.

The following month, King got candid about losing custody of her kids on the Whine Down With Jana Kramer podcast.

‘My duty as a mother is to protect my children. And that’s all that matters to me. This is scary,’ the star admitted to the podcast host.

The actress then reflected on tying the knot with Newman when she was 28.

‘I just didn’t know when I got married at a young age. I just didn’t know that the world works like this. I didn’t know that legal systems work like this.’

The Hart Of Dixie star also claimed that Newman falsely represented their relationship to the court in order to gain full custody of their sons.

‘It’s terrifying, when to be able to be free means that you have to pay a very extreme price, and I’m not just talking about financially.’

King further expressed, ‘It’s very upsetting, and I will do everything in my power to change this system, and it’s not a will. I’m going to. There’s no price to pay for freedom.’ 

A source told The Sun at the time that the actress is ‘shattered’ after losing custody and added, ‘Now that the world knows, it’s made everything that much harder. It causes a wedge in personal and work relationships.’

‘She is taking it very hard to say the least. She has had demons she’s been battling for decades but her recent troubles have been exasperated by her family troubles, her career struggling and financial stress.’

The insider continued, ‘And I’m sure things others don’t even know about, she can be very private about what she’s going through.’

Sosa’s filing for divorce only months after secretly tying the knot with King comes shortly after she was seen spending time with hotelier Vikram Chatwal earlier this month.

The pair had been spotted ‘looking affectionate with one another’ while stopping by the iconic Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, per Page Six.

But a rep shut down the romance speculation between King and the Dream Hotel founder.

Nearly a decade earlier, Chatwal was reportedly sentenced to five days of community service after being convicted on charges of torturing and injuring animals, reckless endangerment as well as criminal mischief for ‘setting two dogs on fire.’

King further denied the wild rumors to Page Six as she claimed that both she and Chatwal were only talking ‘business.’

She also confirmed that she was still engaged to Sosa at the time.

Chatwal used to have a friendship with stars such as Lindsay Lohan as well as Nicky Hilton Rothschild and Poppy Delevingne.

Two years earlier, his 81-year-old father pled guilty to witness tampering and conspiring to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act by making over $180,000 in federal campaign donations to three candidates through straw donors.
