Iran ‘prepares hundreds of graves for US troopers’ as struggle tensions soar
The reported move comes amid an escalating back and forth between Tehran and Washington, with Donald Trump threatening military action if his demands are not met
Iran is reportedly making preparations to inter the remains of fallen American servicemen in the event of a US assault on the nation, according to domestic media reports.
Mehr News Agency, a semi-official outlet backed by the Iranian government, reported – quoting the Behesht Zahra Organisation – that the measure forms part of advance contingency planning as hostilities with the US intensify.
The remains would allegedly be laid to rest on the outskirts of Tehran, Iran’s capital city. The Behesht Zahra Organisation, which oversees Iran’s most expansive cemetery, has allegedly established a location with capacity for thousands of burial plots, specifically prepared for potential US military intervention.
This development emerges against a backdrop of escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, with Donald Trump issuing threats of military action unless his conditions are satisfied, reports the Express.
On Wednesday, USS Abraham Lincoln and the accompanying US Navy carrier strike group pressed on with their voyage towards Iran. Whilst attending the red carpet premiere of his wife’s documentary “Melania”, the US president called upon Tehran to abandon its nuclear weapons programme and cease the killing of demonstrators who have challenged the regime.
He said: “We have a lot of very big, very powerful ships sailing to Iran right now. And it would be great if we didn’t have to use them.
“I told them two things; Number one no nuclear. And number two stop killing protesters … They’re going to have to do something.”
Iran, which insists its nuclear programme serves purely civilian purposes, has indicated its readiness to enter negotiations, though foreign minister Abbas Araghchi stressed any discussions must be “fair and equitable” and not conducted “under the shadow of threats”. He maintained that Tehran has “no problem with negotiations”.
He continued: “They must certainly set aside their threats and change their approach toward a fair and equitable negotiation, as Mr Trump himself said in his post.”
Meanwhile, Iran has allegedly deployed 1,000 new “strategic drones ” across its military forces. The state-linked news agency Tasnim, which has connections to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), verified this development.
Tasnim explained that no images would be published to protect “military secrets.”
This development coincides with widespread demonstrations that have rocked the Iranian regime in recent weeks, prompting brutal crackdowns by the IRGC.
The assertion regarding the graves emerges alongside reports of explosions being heard across Tehran.
