Winter Olympian who sparked physique paint frenzy to compete in Milan with ‘ruptured ACL’

A Winter Olympics icon who recently sparked a body paint frenzy on social media is ready to compete in Italy despite rupturing her ACL in a horror crash last week

A Winter Olympics icon who recently sparked a body paint frenzy on social media is set to compete at the upcoming games despite suffering a horror injury earlier this month.

Lindsey Vonn was airlifted to hospital after a terrifying crash in her final Alpine World Cup event last week. Vonn, 41, lost control after landing a jump on the course in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, before hitting the safety net, tearing her ACL in the process.

The American, however, still plans on competing in Italy. She said: “If there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback. We have been doing extensive therapy, consulting with doctors, been in the gym, and today I went skiing.

“Considering how my knee feels, it feels stable, it feels strong. With the help of a knee brace, I’m confident I’ll be competing on Sunday.”

She added: “I’m not crying. My head is high. I’m standing tall, I’m gonna do my best… can never say I didn’t try. I will do everything in my power to be in the starting gate.”

Vonn is no stranger to knee issues, and she was already competing with a partial titanium implant in her right knee.

Vonn almost broke the internet before the horror crash when she joined the ‘2016 trend’ which sees social media users, including high-profile celebrities, resharing memories from a decade ago.

Vonn’s reel from the past includes a look back at her Sports Illustrated photoshoot, which saw her and tennis legend Caroline Wozniacki, Rory McIlroy’s ex, don nothing but body paint.

A video of her doing pull-ups and a topless beach shot leaves little to the imagination.

The eye-popping collection also features her looking glamorous at red carpet events, celebrating at skiing events, receiving treatment for an injury after a crash and selfies from her private life.

The pictures brought back fond memories for Wozniacki, 35, who commented: “Our body paint shoot!! Also, you haven’t aged a day!!!”
