Luke Littler is concentrating on two nine-darters because the Premier League returns

Darts sensation Luke Littler was speaking as BetMGM pledged to give the custom-made 18-carat gold darts worth £30,000 to any player hitting a nine-dart finish in the Premier League

Luke Littler is targeting a prize of 18-carat gold darts which are worth £30,000 in this season’s Premier League.

The sports sensation, 19, from Warrington, is promising fans a couple of explosive nine-darters in the tournament to land the arrows. Firm BetMGM will give the custom-made golden darts to any player hitting a nine-dart finish in the Premier League, which kicks off in Newcastle on Thursday (February 5).

And The Nuke is promising to give telly audiences the perfect leg twice, adding: “I can feel another nine coming, for sure.” He said: “I’ll have two nine-darters this year, that’s the aim.

“I think it’s a great prize that BetMGM is offering; it’s not your normal prize. They come when you’re feeling it and obviously, I didn’t hit one in the Masters. Hopefully we won’t have to wait many weeks for it.”

The world champ added: “Hitting the nine-darter in Cardiff last year was special. The week before in Brighton as well when Rob [Cross] and Luke [Humphries] hit them – I was gutted I wasn’t involved but I got there in Cardiff.

“Hopefully we can get another set.”

Meanwhile, Luke rubbished comparisons between him and legend Phil Taylor, who won the world championship 14 times. He told BetMGM: “Comparing myself to [Phil] Taylor, though… no one will be as good as him.

“Unless I win 16 Matchplays and World Championships! There is a long way to go but also there’s the question of whether I want to be playing darts in 30 or 40 years time.

“Darts is changing; there are more youngsters coming through and the world of darts is better now.”

Elsewhere, his rival Luke Humphries, 30, reckons the gold darts are the “best prize” in the sport. He said: “It’s a really special piece and it has pride of place. I’m hoping I can hit another one this year.

“It is an incentive for sure. You look at last year when we had five – the most ever. Once one player hits it, the others want to be part of it too.”
