Manchester is revealed as Britain’s most romantic metropolis – pipping London and Liverpool

Forget Paris or Venice – if you’re looking for romance, Manchester is the place to be, according to new study.

As many as one in four (40 per cent) people in the northern city declared themselves very romantic, just ahead of London (37 per cent) and Liverpool (36 per cent), making it the romance capital of Britain.

Leeds (35 per cent), Nottingham (34 per cent) and Cambridge (34 per cent) also made the top ten list of cities where you are most likely to be swept off your feet.

On the flipside, Newcastle was easily the least romantic place in the UK, with only 20 per cent of respondents describing themselves as romantic.

A quarter (26 per cent) of Geordies will buy their partners a gift on Valentine’s Day – that’s compared to 38 per cent of the rest of the UK.

The research of 2,000 Brits in relationships, which was commissioned by the LEGO Group, found overall the ‘love letter’ is becoming a thing of the past – as 35 per cent of Gen Z and 27 per cent of millennials have never written a one – compared to just 10 per cent of Gen X and boomers.

Overall, 91 per cent of all ages surveyed, felt that words of love are no longer a common way to express how we feel.

More than half (53 per cent) would feel silly or awkward writing a love letter, while 22 per cent would struggle to find the words to say, when putting pen to paper.

Yet the appetite for romance hasn’t disappeared altogether. A resounding 60 per cent of Brits of all ages said they would love it if their partner wrote them some personal words of love.

To help reignite the romance, LEGO Botanicals is launching an online message-builder, unlocking a selection of romantic lines ready for DMs, captions or even the bravest of voice notes.

Kuran Sharma, Head of Marketing UK&I for the LEGO Group, said: ‘Whether you’re from the north or south, east or west, it’s clear that

Valentine’s is missing that extra effort. At the LEGO Group, we want to help romantics reach their potential by giving them the building bricks for an epic love letter and the perfect gift to accompany it.’
