Man Utd participant rankings vs West Ham together with 4/10 horror present throughout draw

Manchester United missed the chance to go third in the Premier League as Benjamin Sesko’s late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at West Ham after Tomas Soucek had put the Hammers ahead

Manchester United squandered the opportunity to climb to third in the Premier League as Michael Carrick’s perfect start as head coach was halted by a 1-1 stalemate at West Ham.

The opening 45 minutes had been dull and lacklustre, but the match sparked into life after the interval when Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock, converting a Jarrod Bowen delivery following some woeful Luke Shaw defending.

Casemiro believed he had restored parity only for VAR to rule out the strike for offside, and United toiled to fashion openings before Benjamin Sesko conjured a moment of magic to snatch a late equaliser.

Senne Lammens, 6 – Clever first-half stop from Crysencio Summerville and had little chance with the opener, though showed the occasional nervy moment when put under pressure in possession.

Diogo Dalot, 5 – Cautioned for a challenge on Summerville and found it tough going against the winger throughout. Appeared anxious as a consequence and nearly put his side in danger during the opening period.

Harry Maguire, 7 – Seemed to be battling a niggle at times but held firm at the back and claimed numerous aerial contests once more.

Lisandro Martinez, 6 – An evening when United craved more of his defence-splitting distribution. Might have done better to prevent the delivery for the opener.

Luke Shaw, 4 – Bowen proved a tricky customer but the winger made Shaw look foolish for the goal. Allowed a long pass to drop and was then caught out when gambling on his next challenge.

Casemiro, 7 – Unfortunate with the ruled-out goal following a decent header. Among the standout performers on the night. Demonstrated good game awareness and showed his fighting spirit in his second start within four days.

Kobbie Mainoo, 6 – Elegant in possession but didn’t distinguish himself for the goal. Whilst Shaw bears responsibility, Mainoo had tracked Soucek’s movement before allowing him to get the crucial first contact.

Amad, 5 – Appears to be losing momentum and this match confirmed those concerns. Enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to trouble West Ham sufficiently.

Bruno Fernandes, 6 – Significantly below his typical standards on an evening when United required some of his customary brilliance. Simply couldn’t create the necessary spark.

Matheus Cunha, 6 – Withdrew deeper in attempts to influence proceedings but too frequently left United lacking a central attacking presence. The partnership with Fernandes proved ineffective.

Bryan Mbeumo, 5 – Positioned on the left flank for the opening three-quarters and the role didn’t suit him. Rarely made his presence felt.

Leny Yoro, 6 – Showed determination in his battle with Castellanos.
